Okay, so I made a #NerdBin account to try out #KBin. Not sure how much I'll use it cause I was never really a big Reddit person in general, but if interested - here's my account: @mdmrn
@mdmrn you can navigate to a federated instance using the following format: kbin.social/m/anime@lemmy.ml (for example).
It's pretty cool it's natively compatible with #Lemmy as well as native #Kbin feeds.
Also the Microblogs tab in a magazine should pull #Mastodon posts that are tagged as well, so in theory you can use it for interaction with Mastodon users (though it's not as nice as a native client like Ivory)
Also, I like that you can follow Kbin/Lemmy users from Mastodon as well, as neither are great for interacting with people rather than topics.
I'm just liking the flexibility of the #Fediverse a ton.
@mdmrn You add /m/<community> to base url and click subscribe. Remove "!" from the community name. If it doesn't load, it's probably problem with your instance and the federation.
Okay, so I am on #Android, and it let me install the #NerdBin website as though it is an app. So, I can save the website app and use it that way. Works well.
@mdmrn all of the lemmy and kbin web apps are the type of thing you can drag on to your desktop / app manager. unfortunately it seems to dis-incentivise people to write desktop apps, which is annoying because web apps are clunky and bugged
I believe you can search @URL to the magazine you want in the instance you're logged into which forces the instance you're logged into to recognize it and allow you to subscribe. For example, I found my kbin magazine on kpop.social by searching @twice@kbin.social, although while it does see my kbin magazine, it reports no posts which isn't true, I've got 40 or so in there over the last week.
@LewieKong I mean, I've seen the Subscribe button and all - but is there a way to do it across Instances? I mean, I'm seeing some cross-instance posts on NerdBin from KBinSocial, but not sure how to just subscribe to a magazine from another instance
@mdmrn@LewieKong you need the real url of the magazine and need to put the full url into the global search to find it if you are the first in your instance to link the community from another instance.
Go to the magazine at kbin.social website
copy the url in your browser
Login to your nerdbin website and go to global search
Paste the full url and search. Should appear there with zero posts at first. Subsribe and wait for federation to start :)
