Custoslibera, in Daria 1997-2002

I remember watching the complete series of Daria about a year after I had finished school and my life was a bit directionless.

The show had a profound effect on me; a mixture of nostalgia, inevitable maturity and that things were probably going to be alright (I.e. the final episodes credit scene).

The soundtrack of Daria is also absolutely amazing for anyone who grew up in that time, so many brilliant songs and I highly recommend it.

I’m still upset that the DVD release of this show had to strip out all of the original songs because of copyright issues.

It’s honestly one the things that radicalised me against copyright law. I just want a work of art to be preserved without people worrying about profit.

ChickenLadyLovesLife,

had to strip out all of the original songs because of copyright issues

This shit ruined WKRP in Cincinnati reruns, too.

Although not totally ruined because … Bailey.

HipPriest,

There's an unedited mix floating around as a torrent with the original music intact.

Custoslibera,

Yes, you’re right. I have had it for over a decade now and am holding on to it for dear life.

dragonflyteaparty,

I have to find this torrent. Daria was legit.

flipthetube, in Mission Hill (1999-2000)

I’ve never heard of this, I’d like to check it out.

FrankFrankson,

The creators went on to write for and produce a crap ton of other great shows like Futurama and Gravity Falls…one of them even wrote for Brickleberry for a bit but I will forgive this because I like most of the rest of their stuff.

A bit more info on the reboot:

deadline.com/…/bill-oakley-josh-weinstein-spin-of…

And from Wikipedia:

“In June 2022, Oakley claimed that they were still in the process of pitching the project, and that if this version was picked up, then it would continue under the Mission Hill moniker, rather than being titled Gus and Wally.[4] He also mentioned that it would include the unproduced episodes from the original incarnation of the show.[4]”

Check out dead like me if you enjoyed this. Sadly dead like me didn’t get a full arc like 6 ft under

Yea it was enjoyable, wish it got more.

Donjuanme, in Sell Me On Your Shows

My wife recommends “better off Ted” a workplace comedy centered in a corporate research facility. It’s like witnessing the business side of aperture science (if you play videogames). The fake commercials they run in every show are so unbelievable in parody that they’re starting to become actual corporate practices. The cast is amazing, and if you haven’t seen it you’re missing a surprising amount of inside jokes on the internet.

fidodo,

It’s criminal that it wasn’t renewed

n3m37h,

You will like Avenue 5

GrammatonCleric, in Fringe is a gem that changed the way I think about Sci-Fi TV

Great show for a few seasons until it essentially became an ad for the Nissan Leaf.

I miss the spooky black SUVs 🥺

LOL… so true!

dogebread,

Is that as rampant in modern TV? I recall Community basically making product placement the plot in a few episodes. Subway, Honda, etc.

trafficnab,

Did you see the X-Files reboot? There's unironically a full plot irelavant scene showcasing the Ford™ Explorer™'s advanced side bumper cameras, another one that's about the Remote Unlock™ feature in the Ford™ EcoConnect™ App™ that Mulder uses to recover the keys he locked in their Ford™ Focus™, and of course we can't forget the knock off Fast and Furious extended car chase scene where Mulder, driving the Ford™ Mustang™ completely outmatches the Totally Not A Charger Missing Its Badges™ in both straight line speed and handling

If you skip the last season, it's about as perfect a series as it gets, conclusion and all.

I loved this show! It was my Wifi SSID for a while!

Tenthrow, in Just finished Season 2 of Alias and I have questions. [Possible Spoilers]

Hokay… Almost done with season 3 and boy is this show suffering from the classic the J.J.Abrams “we have no plan” story structure.

TankCrimes, in Red Dwarf (1988+) -- Smegging brilliant

My favourite cat quote is when he’s asked to justify his existence.

“I have given pleasure to the world because I have such a beautiful ass!” “Some might say that’s a pretty shallow arguement…” “Some might say I’m a shallow guy, but a shallow guy with a great ass”
