  • "Hey Neon, Increase the volume"
  • Change the homescreen wallpaper in the system menu.
    Swipe down for the menu, choose Settings → Display → Wallpaper Settings
  • "Hey Neon, Talk to me faster"

Cool and all, but for a service/device/software that prides itself on being private this could be an issue unless they have solved it somehow, as all the conversation would go through the OpenAI servers

Edit: They say that they proxy it through their systems anonymized, that would work but it's not perfect as anonymization can sometimes be reversed. Still, it's better than nothing, it's unlikely the devices will be able to run locally any LLM. An option would be an LLM hosted on a server under the user's control, or hosted by the company itself. We'll see.

@Suoko @jherazob yes but its extremely slow like taking minutes to answer... Its a fun project but its better to install in some orange pi 5b (more powerful) or some mini PC with at least 16gb ram...

Well, mycroft costs 400€, with 400€ you could even get an i5/ryzen5 so plenty of hw to choose from for that price target.

Why used? You can almost get a new macmini for that price, a new mini pc is like 150

Maybe because it's more environment friendly to reuse old PC than buy a brand new one? I mean, that's not the only reason, but it's still one. (And a good one, if you ask me.)

Another would be that an old model is probably supported better than most brand-new computers by GNU/Linux, which might be a critera for a Mycroft user. (There is a few brands who specialize in designing brand-new computers to run under GNU/Linux, but they are niche brands who often cost a bit more than your average brand new computer, at the same specs.)

I wouldn't trust any computer from AliExpress personally. In my experience, a brand new computer sold too far under the usual price is either stolen, an outright fake, or a broken unit. (Not always unable to boot, but not working as it should either.)
