ralakus, Jackfruit! These taste pretty good when ripe but can get a little bit messy to clean up. It’s really sticky when fresh and soap does not clean it off. You have to scrub your hands and the machete with vegetable oil to dissolve the sticky goop and then wash them off with soap.
yum, I can’t remember de taste now, but I really enjoyed these as a kid. There were many in my backyard. Thanks for the nostalgia!

HessiaNerd, No. Definitely tastier. At least the fruit part. There is a different part that is more fleshy that is less tasty. It’s used as a pulled pork substitute in vegan dishes.

It tastes like very overripe pineapple to me. Maybe I didn’t get it at the correct ripeness or something.
Hadriscus, Yea and there are several varieties too, some don’t get goopy at all, they stay firm. I personally love the goopies though

nandeEbisu, Are you eating ripe or young jackfruit? Young jackfruit is what’s often used as a meat substitute, ripe jackfruit is sweet and has a unique flavor.

Tastes amazingly complex. Can be overwhelming, but if you like things like wine, whiskey, cheese, and chutneys, you’ll love it.
It tastes like some kind cheesy fruity onion chutney. Sweet and rich.
poplargrove, It does smell a little funny but the taste and texture makes up for it. Especially as part of this desert (durian pulut) that comes with sticky rice and a kind of syrup.
