“the” society? “neighbours” in a US-centric meme? who made this?

edit: I wouldn’t expect someone writing from a US perspective to refer to society as the society, or to spell “neighbors” with a “u”. I mean, I guess people outside of the US can comment and meme on US politics all they want. But, like, memes sowing discord in US politics in an election year coming from non-US sources sorta triggers bad memories for me.

Conservatives love to talk about neighbors (small Towns), but not about society - too close to socialism. Liberals are the inverse of it. So, my conclusion is that the person who made this meme is chaotic neutral.

The meme template uses the UK spelling of “neighbours” instead of the US spelling (neighbors). While I agree the content is obviously US-centric, the spelling and some other irregularities make it unclear whether this meme was made by someone who has ever spent time in the US, which is what OP was pointing out.

TachyonTele,

Man, nothing gets by you does it? You’re like a goalie for the Red Sox.

Not all Conservatives! /s

But like, their leaders do most of this and they support their leaders so it’s an irrelevant distinction. In the US it’s essentially boiled down to the Republican party: The RNC and the party supports Trump who is an obvious fascist, racist, etc. They support him to the point of making their entire policy just him. Whereas normal parties have actual policies and the POTUS is merely the leader of the party. So if you support the Republican party you are de facto supporting Trump and are therefore supporting straight fascism.

In the past you could at least support Republicans for their policies (these have their own problems) but not support their current Presidential candidate/POTUS. But they’ve gone all-in on Trump so it’s a wash.

eltrain123,

I used to consider myself a fiscal conservative… then I realized republicans are just as, if not more than, fiscally irresponsible than democrats. At least with dems, they try to provide a social safety net.

If you’re going to waste money on unsustainable policy, you may as well try to benefit as many people as possible. We should be trying to find sustainability. Right now, that means taxing the fuck out of the wealthy and creating programs that bring the poor into the middle class, and the middle class into a reasonable quality of life.

Neither party is acheiving that, but democrats are closer to the answer than republicans.

Yeah Republicans really won the messaging war on making people believe they are fiscally conservative. Because who wouldn’t want their government to be fiscally conservative?! It sounds awesome.

Turns out, while most people hear fiscally conservative they imagine being smart with spending, but when Republicans say fiscally conservative and mean tax cuts for the wealthy.

unexposedhazard,

So you are saying you are an asshole?

Or are you describing the average conservative being an asshole?

RmDebArc_5,
@RmDebArc_5@sh.itjust.works avatar

Not sure about the average (likely better than nazi Germany), but yes this post is about let’s say (semi-)prominent conservative figures

unexposedhazard,

Thanks for the answer, but wow people are mad about asking a genuine question. Im sure there are plenty of actual conservatives that would post this type of shit so i just wanted to confirm.

RmDebArc_5,
@RmDebArc_5@sh.itjust.works avatar

The problem with text is that you can’t hear how something is meant. It’s hard to distinguish genuine questions and mockery.

Bad tip: if you’re asking a genuine question add /s at the end to show that it’s serious

Tap for spoilerJust to clarify don’t do that

unexposedhazard,

Yeah maybe i should have put the second part first for people that stop reading after the first line 🤔

Will agree it’s confusing, but pretty sure the “I” in the meme is not OP referring to themselves but rather a satirical first-person view of prominent conservatives.
