Exactly. America has moved so far to the right that the “leftist” party is swarmed with people like Joe Manchin, and it’s presidential candidate is the author of the god awful crime bill that’s worked to imprison untold numbers of people unjustly and along racial lines disproportionate. And supports genocide. And censures it’s only Palestinian congresswoman for….pointing out the reality of what’s going on.
I didn’t say they’re the same parties. I said both right wing. The democrats are a right wing party. The republicans are…a right-er wing party determined to cosplay their way into abject fascism.
There is no true left wing party that is currently viable in America. That needs to change. The two party system is an abomination and it’s stranglehold on the country is both pathetic and infuriating.
Vote y'all. Trump will literally make every negative thing you think about this country worse.
Gaza, immigration, EPA, lgbtq rights, corpo regulations, lobbying, corruption will all get much worse under him. And that list doesn't even scratch the surface.
For the love of all things holy. How many times do we have to repeat that Trump lost while being a sitting president? He even tried to illegally remain in power, and couldn’t.
Why bring up 2016 and skip over 2020? Trump wasn’t even a true politician back in 2016. Now he is, now people know how stupidly dangerous he is for the country. People wised up.
And the polls mean nothing. The press and poll makers can say “this candidate is leading by a landslide” all they want. And then in the actual election, things are more close to 50/50.
In speaking of the capitalists who strive only for profit, only to get rich, I do not want to say that these are the most worthless people capable of doing nothing else. Many of them undoubtedly possess great organising talent, which I would not dream of denying. We Soviet people learn a lot from the capitalists. But if you mean people who are prepared to reconstruct the world, of course you will not be able to find them in the ranks of those who faithfully serve the cause of profit. …The capitalist is riveted in profit and nothing can tear him away from it.
It’s almost entirely what they mean, if not completely.
Humans largely don’t give a shit about the planet, only themselves, despite having the capacity to be better. To me, that almost makes what we are reaping eyes wide open, after eviscerating entire ecosystems (and other humans who lacked net worth or a flag, especially the ones whose culture lived in sustainable harmony with nature, they had to die) to build strip malls to feed our beloved sociopath’s greed disease feel fair to me.
Oh woe is us! The droughts, the hurricanes, the famines, what did we do to this planet to deserve this?! Fuck them animals we’re taking out with us by the way, the ones we didn’t already drive to extinction bulldozing the rainforest and the like, but oh woe is us!
In a way, I blame the asteroid that collided with Earth and killed the dinosaurs. No asteroid, no mammals taking over. No mammals taking over, no humans.
What we’re doing is practically a ripple from that collision.
“having grown past my bubble, talked to the people I affected, read more widely, and realised the impact my actions had on people I never wanted to harm"
Reading saves another one. Good for them! Seems like their was a lot of work put in to building a better life, which is admirable when it’s so much easier to say nothing and live in a culture of hate.
Proponents of this change say it is necessary to ensure rural Arizonans have a voice in the process; they say citizen-led initiatives are typically pushed by voters in Maricopa and Pima Counties, the state’s two most populous.
They do have a say – at the ballot box.
Citizen lead initiatives for ballot measures are a means to determine whether or not a given issue is worth the broader population weighing in on. If they pass they don’t automatically create new laws, they just give the opportunity for everyone to vote on it. That’s why you only need something like 15% of the previous votes cast to sign on and not a majority.
There is no reason a rural county should be able to block a a state from even considering something.
This is purely a reaction to women and their allies putting forth their right to bodily autonomy and reproductive health on the ballot. It is nothing more than an attempt for the legislators to rule rather than represent.
As a rural Arizonan, I don’t care if Maricopa has more of a voice because there are more people, that is literally how democracy works. If there was a situation that suits Maricopa residents but isn’t ideal for me, then so be it. They shouldn’t suffer because I decided to live in the boonies, my signature shouldn’t be worth more than theirs. All this initiative does really is the same thing as gerrymandering, it give a bigger vote to the minority Republicans. They can’t handle all the losing they have been doing lately, Yet they keep being shitbags. Instead of stop being shitbags and realizing they are the minority they try to change the rules. Also, if I recall correctly I voted against something similar to this the last election.
It said the dude that shot her was in a relationship with her, and it’s not being treated as a hate crime. Likely not a bigoted motive, probably relationship drama.
Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.
Take it from someone who started life in a family like that. People can learn and change. Kill the idea and not the person and you gain allies and remove enemies without any life lost. Thats the win you really want.
No, that’s how I end up against a wall. How many of us have to die before you morons understand that it fascism isn’t something to reason with it’s a cancer. Fascism is a disease that must be cut out. For healthy democracy to function every now and then you have to gather up all the fascist and hang them.
Manchin is not moderate by any stretch. He is so blatantly beholden to his special interest money sources that he doesn't seem to have any political direction at all. He's a democrat by title who pretty much hangs out with the Republicans, and also votes with them. That's not moderate.
He’s a “moderate centrist” in the sense that he’s basically the median senator. Which honestly says more about the Senate than it does about him or his politics.
He votes with Biden about 90% of the time, though. He’s obstructed some big parts if the Democratic agenda, but if you’d rather have another Republican like Shelly Capito in his seat then you’re nuts. At this point, the chance of replacing him with even a mainstream Democrat is basically nil. That whole state has swung very far right.
It keeps blowing past already dire estimates. Even our scientists no greedy fuck sociopath with power actually listens to understandably keeps underestimating the breadth and depth of what our reckless, thoughtless growth is doing to our only fishbowl.
It couldn’t be any clearer that our species has absolutely no idea what we’re doing, and is overtly hostile to voices of reason calling for homeostasis/equilibrium over proudly reckless growth/metastasis on a finite world.
Honestly, I think this may be one of those great filters that explain why the galaxy isn’t teeming with the signals of advanced civilizations. A species gets just barely smart enough to devise technological conveniences, but is still too bone dead stooooopid to even consider heeding the potential ecological consequences of their use/overuse of those technologies on the habitat they’re wholly dependant on. Hi, we’re humanity.
As someone who loves the messages and hope of Star Trek, it’s become abundantly clear to me that, in our current form, we’re never going to spread meaningfully off this rock. We couldn’t even stop fucking up the ONLY optimal, friendly habitat in the cosmos that we will ever know. One that only requires “stop being greedy fucks and stop shitting where you sleep.”
Yeah, we’re going to establish multigenerational colonies of dozens/hundreds on worlds where a single meaningful fuckup means everybody dies instantly. /s Have you met us?
The only reason for shit reporting like this is to stoke the right wing racist hate machine. Just about every inbred Fox watching ignoramus has no clue “that undocumented immigrants had substantially lower crime rates than native-born citizens and legal immigrants across a range of felony offenses.” <- Study with Texas data
But it IS in fact news right? Is it still not worth reporting? I mean, these people really were arrested, should we just not care? I mean, I like to consider myself independent and neutral in politics (although I do lean more Right, I am registered as independent) but even I think this is news worth knowing. Here’s a direct link to the incident:
“Migrants with criminal convictions encountered by El Paso Sector agents include aggravated felons such as sex offenders, child predators and drug traffickers. Additional offenses include illegal possession of firearms, assault, domestic violence, and burglary. Some of the migrants encountered have gang or Mexican Drug Cartel affiliations.”
It’s not news that you take a group of <x number of> people, there are going to be a subset of <x> who are criminals. Migrants, according to data, are better neighbors and citizens. But Fox selectively culls it’s reports to enforce right wing hysteria. If Fox reporting were being honest, in spirit if not letter, it would also make sure that it’s viewers knew that these immigrants, as a group, are more trustworthy and honest than the viewer’s neighbors.
