Phantasy Star?

Phantasy Star Online 2 (PSO2) is a online free-to-play action RPG developed and published by SEGA. Originally released in 2012, it later got a expansion titled "Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis" (PSO2:NGS) in 2021, which may as well be its own game. NGS released both in Japan and Globally at the same time.

Players can easily jump between NGS and "Classic" PSO2 and play each with the same character. Each has their own story, quests and content to play.

PSO2:NGS is avaliable as Global (PC, PS4, Xbox One) and Japanese (PC, PS4 and Switch Cloud) releases. The Global and Japanese servers are not linked, and the Japanese servers require that you live in Japan to play on them.

Previous games in the Phantasy Star series include the original Phantasy Star Online (PSO), Phantasy Star Universe (PSU), Phantasy Star Portable 1&2, as well as the Phantasy Star games on SEGA's Master System, Game Gear and Genesis. NGS Headline

The NGS Headline is a livestream ran by SEGA on the last Tuesday of every month. A history of previous livestreams on the official YouTube channel can be found here. Future Headlines are announced both in the previous Headline and on the official website.

Microblog

Kbin Magazines come with a Microblog page where users can post. The Magazine is also set up to automatically watch the #pso2, #pso2ngs and #pso2global hashtags on the Fediverse and will include those posts in the Microblog. Feel free to make posts in there!

Badges

The "Badges" field on threads doesn't do anything right now, but in the future will be similar to a "post flair" system that'll categorize posts. The following are set up on the Magazine: 'Headlines', 'News', 'Guides', 'Creative Spaces', 'Artwork', 'Fashion', 'Screenshots' and 'Discussion'. You don't have to use these but it'll help future-proof your threads if you do.

Questions about the game

I played PSO2 before NGS released. Can I use my characters from PSO2?

Yes! When you select a character you haven't played NGS with before, it'll allow you to completely customise your appearance for free and will send you to NGS's Prologue after. All of your fashion and items will be intact.

Can I still play the old PSO2?

Yes! On the character select screen, just select PSO2 after picking your character. Depending on the platform you are playing on, you may have to download the optional files that are needed to play PSO2. You will also have to complete NGS's tutorial first before being able to play PSO2.

While in-game, you can use the list of blocks accessed from the Ryuker Device in NGS or block changer in PSO2 to swap games.

It has been a while since I last played. How can I catch up to other players?

An easy way to catch up casually is to play during a Seasonal Event. These usually come with a new weapon series and can be obtained from the Seasonal Shop with a high enhancement level, potential level and decent augments already on them. You can also try and buy one of these from player shops.
You can also get armor Units from the Seasonal Shop.
