I went to see the new Scottish gallery of the National Gallery of Scotland, which opens this weekend, a perk of being a "friend".
The gallery itself is wonderful. I was there in the evening; with large east-facing windows, it'll be impressive in the mornings.
It's great to see so many pictures - many familiar - together. They span 18C to 1945, presumably because post-45 belongs in Modern. This resulted in some strange omissions: there were Redpaths, but no Joan Eardley!
It is fascinating that we get a bunch of biological #sequence#aligners to choose from in #bioinformatics , but no standardized terminology of their modes, or API (you can find a bewildering mix of libraries and CLI). This is gap for researchers who want to try different tools, and likely for companies in the #NGS#sequencing space too. The first is the reason I am flexing my #perl skills , leveraging the new lang features to create a standardized API for many of the recent tools. @Perl
One would have thought that the Society could have made arrangements to create an endowment to sustain the magazine given the $750 mil it received from Fox. Other institutional magazines have struggled along as non-profits sustained by endowments or foundations, such as Harper’s. #NGS

We're asking the National Gender Service ( #NGS ) to stop discouraging GPs from perscribing HRT and blood tests. It is safe and legal for GPs to offer both of these services in Ireland, but most do not because the NGS essentially scolds them when they find out about anyone but their own doctors providing HRT, or blood tests for patients using DIY or private-perscribed HRT.
The NGS's attempts to gatekeep all trans care in Ireland makes it very difficult for trans people to access gender affirming care here. The NGS requires multiple interview appointments to make sure a patient is "trans enough", and has so many patients on their waiting list that someone signing up today would have to wait 9 years to get care.
