What are some of the reasons you gave up on an idea for a bot?

And if the answer is "technically challenging", you're gonna love this place, full of friendly people happy to help you out! 👉 https://botmakers.org

@botwiki it's a generative art bot that would run code suggestions from people who message it, and I couldn't figure out how to make that safe for me to self host (either at home or on a vps) and I don't understand how random cloud stuff works and heard that cloud providers will gouge you with surprise billing. Kinda worried that people could just spam it to rack up a horrible bill so I just kinda gave up for now

@botwiki so yeah, if you know of a safe cheap way to execute code from the open internet I'm all ears.

@aeva Love the idea! Maybe someone over at https://botmakers.org might help?

wurzbacher,

@aeva @botwiki If I “get” your vision, people submit a piece of code, and the bot returns a piece of art.

You only need to expose 443, and you don’t even need to host it if written creatively.

Hell, build it w/ lambda functions. Afaik the frameworks are built in JS, but with a well documented mastodon app, you could just as easily write it in python. Or Java for all it matters. Doesn’t matter how you call the api ultimately.

Sounds like fun actually.
