@botwiki it's a generative art bot that would run code suggestions from people who message it, and I couldn't figure out how to make that safe for me to self host (either at home or on a vps) and I don't understand how random cloud stuff works and heard that cloud providers will gouge you with surprise billing. Kinda worried that people could just spam it to rack up a horrible bill so I just kinda gave up for now

You only need to expose 443, and you don’t even need to host it if written creatively.
Hell, build it w/ lambda functions. Afaik the frameworks are built in JS, but with a well documented mastodon app, you could just as easily write it in python. Or Java for all it matters. Doesn’t matter how you call the api ultimately.
