They all laughed when I wrote code to simulate long division by hand!

Well, today I had a serious reason to use it.

Who's laughing now?!

(not me, I'm crying about the edge cases)

@christianp Can I make the cells narrower?

@stecks not at the mo. They are too wide, I need to look at that

@christianp git issue: For mobile, can you please make the inputs tell the phone it's looking for numbers so I don't have to keep switching keyboards every time I move to a new cell

    @au_hasard the method in my question is just called "long division" in England. I know that the notation elsewhere, such as France, is different, but I don't know any names

    @christianp Thank you for this simulator for putting the result on the top instead of on the side. I have learned how to do it now. I did encounter some bugs but I could not reproduce them when I tried to: the first two tries of perhaps 10 total had some kind of error with the partial submission of part 1. But maybe it was user error.

    @au_hasard I can well believe there are bugs. If you can work out what they were, or even take a screenshot, I'd be grateful!

    olafdf,

    @christianp I did not understand how complicated division really is until I had to write my own long integer library in JavaScript.

    christianp,

    @olafdf so complicated!

    sydvicious,

    @christianp Isn’t it just a decimal approximation of Newton’s Method?

    @christianp @sydvicious
    What was your serious reason?

    christianp,
    @christianp@mathstodon.xyz avatar

    @dougmerritt @sydvicious somebody wants to give interactive feedback as a student performs long division
