@dneto My wife was still using a 2011 MacBook Air. MacOS had become impractical to run on it but she still liked the hardware, so I installed ChromeOS Flex on it and that gave it new life for a few more years. (It was honestly magical) Eventually the battery just gave out, though.
Serious props to Apple for hardware that lasts that long, even if their software doesn't scale with it.

My 2014 era MacBook Air (for work) stopped being practical when an OS upgrade pushed the OS footprint to 85GB on a 128 GB drive. Sad. I really liked it (and it had a good keyboard, hint hint)
@dneto I feel this one pretty hard right now. My 2019 work MacBook (with the bad keyboard) does not have a hard drive large enough to contain both the current MacOS and one (1) Chrome release build.
@litherum@dneto Yes, but if you've upgraded the OS I believe it reserves some space for a backup in case you need to revert. Also the OS typically needs a fair amount more space during the update than during it's steady state, so the size required at install time will be a surprisingly high number.
