🦊Bad news: Cosmogelica postponed indefinitely
Due to issues with the core gameplay, we've decided to put the project on hold. The gameplay concept of "create your own barrier to protect against bullets" just didn't scale well, unfortunately. @roxy have you considered something like letting the player use gel as a mobile shield? I'm imagining something like, the ship has typical shmup move/fire kb controls, and gel is a short snake-like trail that follows the mouse
@gray17 🦊 the issue with that is the way the gel is put on the playfield. it's essentially just a bunch of tiles in a tilemap, so it can't move around dynamically like objects can
@roxy I think that's still fine? It'll be like the game Snake. The gel can start as a 1-tile snake that follows the mouse, and getting some power up can add additional tiles of length. To keep it from being too OP, I think the player's ship should cancel any gel tile it touches. If the gel snake can get longer than 4 tiles, it should probably cancel itself when it self intersects (otherwise it's easy to build a fort)
@gray17 🦊 I'm getting what you're saying now, which is like, a keyboard and mouse game. we make our games with both kbam and gamepad in mind, so this wouldn't work
also, I find it funny that this is vaguely describing how Blobun works
@roxy it should work with any gamepad that has dual directional controls. If you want to limit it to single directional controls, a button can be a shift-key to move the other thing?
