dylanmorgan,

Interesting that EV sales aren’t growing as fast as expected, I wonder if that might be because people can’t afford houses and apartments aren’t incentivized to install charging connections.

ShadowRam,

We are still in a parts scarcity in all industries. It's driving up prices and lead times.

People do want to buy, but everything is so inflated, smart people are holding off unless absolutely necessary.

dragontamer,
conquer4,

From that link, an EV had the highest growth, and every pickup was down.

dragontamer,

Link says GMC Sierra was up 13.4%?

GMC Sierra hasn’t needed price cuts either this year…

hinterlufer,

is there a dataisugly community on lemmy?

ohlaph,

And a lower end model requires a 7 year loan.

HawlSera,

Stop putting people who can’t suffer consequenes for their own actions in charge of shit

People can afford cars?

13esq,

Right?

I can’t afford a new car regardless of what type of engine it has.

Ashyr,

I love seeing Elon make more mistakes.

I thought this was an unrelated but noteworthy comment:

To make matters worse, the public’s appetite for EVs isn’t growing as fast as automakers expected.

I know my appetite hasn’t diminished, but my finances haven’t magically grown to allow me to purchase an EV.

13esq,

I love seeing Elon make more mistakes.

I’m sure he’ll be crying himself to sleep tonight.

dragontamer,

Lies.

Elon microdoses on Ketamine, drinks alcohol while mixing it with Ambien, and then in a stupor signs an ironclad contract to buy a social media company at grossly overvalued prices, losing hundreds of Billions of dollars in TSLA valuation as he proves himself to be the man we always knew he was.

You know. Like a genius does. None of this crying at night bullshit, it’s about drugs.

13esq,

If that combination of drugs will take me on a path from a $28k loan to being the richest man in the world then give me what he’s having.

I’m not saying the guys not a cunt, all billionaires are, but it’s pretty funny when other people critisise him as if they’d be a much more astute worlds richest man. Maybe, just maybe, he’s a better business man than most of us regardless of how his decisions appear sometimes.

kSPvhmTOlwvMd7Y7E,

He won’t pay you, stop sucking already

13esq,

I literally said he’s a cunt, but because I think that the world’s richest man might be a bit better at running businesses than you and I, I’m a boot licker?

You hating musk won’t make you feel any better about yourself.

kSPvhmTOlwvMd7Y7E,

Thank you for psycho analysis, random Internet account, you are so much on point! Crazy how you immediately spotted my weaknesses, preferences, and all problems I am going thru in my life right now.

Cheers!

13esq,

No problem

dragontamer, (edited )

You are more than welcome to take those drugs. They aren’t that expensive and are widespread in this country.

It is a well known fact that Elon takes them so go on and put your money where your mouth is. Then again, you and I both know that those drugs are terrible for your brain and mental well being.

Go, take Ketamine, alcohol and ambien and hang out with the SV ‘visionaries’ (or perhaps more accurately, the Silicon Valley hallucinators). Let us know when you become a billionaire. But I’m going to bet that they rot your brain and make you have reckless decisions.

Making large scale decisions while on hallucinogens is literally their culture. It’s kind of why Elon can barely string a sentence together (oh, sorry, I mean why his speech pattern is so quirky). Or why he throws $44 Billion at Twitter.

13esq,

Imagine taking all those drugs and still being millions of times more successful than you are.

You just sound bitter tbh.

Jax,

Is there like a specific taste profile to cum from the ultra rich?

I only ask because you really seem to like the taste. There must be something to it, right?

13esq,

Some one else in the thread already called me a cock sucker. If you’re going to try and insult me instead of challenging my point of view then do at least try to be original.

Jax,

Point being you exist in a system that, at it’s highest levels, considers you a drone. You could make 150k a year. You are still just a cog to the people on top.

That might be ok with you. For someone like me? That makes me blind with rage, that anyone would be ok with a system that treats them as if they’re worth less.

Take it how you will, I do not care. I am simply being cordial for the sake of the nice moderator.

13esq,

Yeah I wasn’t really debating our socio-economic system and I don’t wholly disagree with your statement. I was just saying that the implication that Musk is a bad businessman sounds extremely naive at best.

dragontamer,

A degree of shittalking is fine, but this is getting too far for my tastes.

Consider this an official warning. I’m not necessarily against vulgarities or direct attacks, but I do prefer it if they were at least related to the idea of the post you’re responding to. If the insult works in a universal setting (like how I’d argue your post is), and is also vulgar and personal, that’s a lot of negatives that don’t help the discussion.

Jax,

“He won’t pay you, stop sucking already” one comment down.

Yeah thanks for the warning, I’m sure it matters.

dragontamer, (edited )

Oh trust me, I recognize that the other guy isn’t exactly the best one to have a discussion. But there is a line crossed here with respect to vulgarities and how personal the attack got. That’s all.

I’m not deleting your message, I’m not banning you, I’m not doing anything in particular. But I feel like posting an official warning in my moderator voice is necessary for the long-term benefits of this discussion space.

I’m juggling different needs here. The post you’re talking about came first, and in isolation a singular personal attack from a singular person isn’t a big deal, especially if the other guy brushes it off. But now we have a 2nd personal attack with a bit more vulgar language, and now I the moderator needs to step in and warn people that things are getting too far. Understand? Its not about what others have done, its the fact that you’re the 2nd person, so its already getting out of hand and we’re crossing a line into a dogpiling. That’s not beneficial to anyone.

Its an official warning because I don’t think you’re necessarily deserving of any official punishment. But this kind of dogpiling is behavior I’d like to minimize if at all possible.

Jax,

Fair enough, you’ve explained your position well.

dragontamer,

Why would I be bitter about that? Its a well known fact that the rich and famous are sexually deviant cokeheads who invite Weinstein and/or Epstein to their parties. None of this is new information. Well… different drugs for different ultrarich cultures. East Coast New Yorkers are more of that cokeheads, SV is more hallucinogens. But drugs and sex all the same.

But if you’re asking me to evaluate the capabilities of this man… well… things speak for themselves, don’t they?

You are seemingly unable to point to any actual virtue this man has aside from his money and power and immediately push into personal insults when you’ve run out of ideas for where this discussion could go.

Lucidlethargy,

Yeah, it’s 100% the price. I’ve wanted an EV for over a decade now.

joel_feila,
@joel_feila@lemmy.world avatar

I could have gottn one but the lack of chargers ended it for me

Pohl,

Why would I buy one right now? The tech is immature and overpriced. The benefit is moving emissions from my tailpipe to the coal and natural gas electricity facilities in my area. The extreme size of EVs for sale now means I’m not really cutting my carbon output compared to my compact ice.

According to the research paper I read a few months ago, based on the North American electric fuel mix, EVs produce about 50% of the carbon per mile compared to ICE pound for pound. The only ICE vehicles that weigh that like a rivian get 12mpg. All that money and your carbon output still looks like a midsize SUV…

Electric drivetrain is almost certainly the future but I feel zero compulsion to spend my money on these intermediate steps. Thanks everyone who is rich enough or dumb enough to support the development I guess. If you care about emissions, buy a bolt (or a Prius), the rest of the US EV fleet is capitalist dick measuring.

Justas,
@Justas@sh.itjust.works avatar

It is a real shame that in USA, a lot of cars, EVs included, are getting bigger. Meanwhile, in China and Europe, cars, and especially EVs, are quite small. I really wish for a return of the mid size car, and EVs could totally make those cars return.

iBaz,

I looked at Tesla in 2022, I had ordered a new BMW and with the parts shortages, it got stuck in quality check for 4.5 months and I was tired of waiting. I didn’t like the fit/finish, and not having CarPlay bugged me. But now after Elon bought Twitter and revealed his true self, there is no scenario in which I’d buy a Tesla.

root_beer,

He showed his true face with the rescue sub/“pedo guy” fiasco. Couple that with the constantly moving goalposts on things like the “under-$35k Model 3” and that godawful stainless steel doorstop, and I noped out of wanting a Tesla well before Twitter broke the man. I’d rather have a mildly used Polestar 2.

sweetdude,

I’m interested if people would change their answer if Elon was no longer CEO of Tesla.

oakey66,

No. Between the shitty build quality, the idiotic upgrade pricing schemes, and the non-concern about unleashing “self driving” on the general public, there is no way I’d be willing to buy a Tesla.

Ashyr,

It wouldn’t for me. This isn’t just about Elon, but how his businesses have been run.

There are too many compromises in Teslas design, how they treat workers makes the entire corporation complicit, there’s no way I want to put my life in their care.

root_beer,

It depends. Would they be willing to cool it on the spurious claims and broken promises? Will their vehicles be more well-built, or at least will they be priced to match their quality? Will they be less garbage an employer?

Right now, everything they do is a reflection of Musk, and if they can separate themselves from him, not just from having him as their public face, but in every way, maybe I’d give them a look, if only because they still have the experience in the tech. Then again, with their EVs, they can do the E part, but they’re pretty middling with the V, so maybe not, after all. There are plenty of other options out there.

dragontamer,

If Elon wasn’t CEO of Tesla, how long do you think it would be before African American workers are treated correctly, and for whoever is in charge to fix up the labor-union issues in Sweden?

We’re no longer at the point where Elon is pulling all the strings. The company is on autopilot, especially as it has become obvious that Elon’s focus the past few months has been at Twitter instead of Tesla. I think what we’re seeing here is truly representative of Tesla’s culture.

Buddahriffic,

You mean like he’s no longer the CEO of Twitter? No, I don’t think a title shuffle will make a difference for me.

SoylentBlake,

No. Musk is a tool, and initially I was on the Tesla/Space X bandwagon (but not a fan of, I remember the hyperloop lies, goalpost moving, etc) but once I got into a Tesla and saw the build quality, for the price, no fucking way. Dash panels that aren’t flush, body panels off kilt. No. Component pieces that feel like they came selfnegotiated before stopping at the bureaucrats penny pinching emporium before assembly.

I can build 3 electric cars on some, idk, 90s civic frames with body panels from, let’s say, old 90s Saturn’s for that price that’ll all fit together better than any Tesla.
