? I finished the most waste of time old Harlequin, The Wild Side by Diana Hamilton. One of those awful misogynistic old skool books that's pretty fun if you're in the right mood -- but then there's the most lukewarm ending! Why did I suffer through all that angst?! Where is my payoff?!

@willaful @romancelandia @romancebooks I'm finding that more and more with my old Harlequins, very few gems.

I'm not really reading at the moment, we're in the mountains for our 20th anniversary! We did listen to Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree on the road trip, my second time, Brett's first.

@willaful Reading 'Nathan Burgoine's "Handmade Holidays" and crying my heart out in the best possible way.

(seriously)

ETA: it's low angst, it's just incredibly heartfelt and so real.

Diva007,

@willaful I finished “How to train your Alpha” by M M Farmer (The first in the Bangers & Mash series - I really liked it; Alpha - Omega; forced proximity; steamy); I’m currently reading “Naughty Elf” (Omega Christmas Elves book one) by the same author as part of my ; and up next will probably be something holiday themed again…

leperez1,

@Diva007 @willaful @romancelandia @romancebooks

Sounds good! I've read a lot of MM Farmer's books. Currently, I'm slowly working my way through her After the War series in between reading other books.

Some of the holiday books I've been reading lately are:

An Heiress for Christmas by @samanthasorelle

Daddy Christmas by Cara Dee

The Christmas Summons by Kelly Fox

Stocking Stuffer by Loralei Hart

Masters in This Hall by KJ Charles

Currently, I'm reading Can We Keep Him for Christmas by Leigh Lennon

So many to choose from!

Eve,

@willaful @romancelandia @romancebooks Oh gosh, I try never to go back to those older books. I tried to re-read a Betty Neels (who I loved) & I couldn't. But at least it wasn't as bad as the old Presents ... talk about misogynistic. All they did was teach you that a man could be verbally & emotionally abusive, but you can fall in love with them anyway.

@Eve @willaful @romancelandia @romancebooks seriously. And that's not even books from the 80s or 90s, the 00s too

Eve,

@lenoreo @willaful @romancelandia @romancebooks and we won't mention the bodice rippers/rape culture ... yes, I loved those books too, we were conditioned to - Luke and Laura anybody?

@Eve @lenoreo I still find them cathartic reads at times, though my tolerance is definitely not what it once was.

@willaful I have to be in a very specific headspace for them, for real.

And even then, it can be iffy whether I can finish them.

@willaful @romancelandia @romancebooks I'm reading Cathryn Fox, a Scotia Storm book. Fun!
