specialseaweed, in RSS reader that can sync across Windows and iOS?

I self host FreshRSS and from there can use any client on any platform. That’s an option for you if you’re self hosting inclined. I use Reeder on iOS and browser on windows.

fin,

Is FreshRSS good? I’ve once made an account on hosted FreshRSS instance before, but I couldn’t manage to sort news by date or something I remember. Maybe I’m just too bad.

Plus, I’m in a school dormitory and can’t have fixed global IP

specialseaweed,

I like FreshRSS fine. I just want it to be stable and predictable and it is. The apps used to connect to it can handle how the data looks for the most part.

It’s a small program and there’s directions on how to run it on the free tier of Azure here: safjan.com/how-to-deploy-freshrss-in-the-cloud-fo…

fin,

Thanks, that guide looks awesome!

P.S. I’m now trying out inoreader, which is proprietary and still requires payment for more convenience, and so far it’s OK. Not as good as NetNewsWire though, it just works. It doesn’t limit the amount of news I can read per day like Feedly or hosted NewsBlur.

There are a ton of website-to-rss services out there. rss.app, openrss.org, rsshub, etc.

Old school solution: email them and ask if they’d be interested in making their calendars actually useful.

  • giacomo, in Will LLM-based article summarizers put rss feeds at risk?

    Unlikely

    vdbm,

Thank goodness. I would like to read some analysis on this. The article doesn’t mention rss directly, but the mechanism is that one.

reggie, in Fetching feeds over Tor

Rss is just files on a site, if the site doesnt allow tor access you wont be able to get it’s rss feed either.

    lemminer,

    any workaround?

    reggie,

I would try using rss-bridge.org/bridge01/, there is a bridge that can filter feeds. You could use that and not actually filter anything so it ends up just being a proxy.

Handy News Reader is a fork of Flym with full text and scores of customisation. It’s on the Playstore and f-droid (as Handy Reading).
