jaschen, I had DEET on my skin and sat in a UBER and my leg was sitting against the door of the car. After I left, I took paint and plastic with me on my leg after a 15 min ride.

FartsWithAnAccent, Yep, DEET will melt synthetic stuff: Let it dry on your skin before you do anything and for clothes/gear use permethrin

FartsWithAnAccent, (edited ) Never apply DEET to your clothes, that is what permethrin is for and it works great! Put it on all your outdoor clothes/gear!
DEET works great but is only for skin, let it dry first too.
