threelonmusketeers,

I’d say even one’s parents are technically ancestors, though they might not take kindly to being referred to as such :)

I think all ancestors are relatives, but not all relatives are ancestors. Aunts and cousins and such are relatives, but not ancestors, as you are not directly descended from them.

threelonmusketeers,

It does not seem like it. Last update was several months ago.

threelonmusketeers,

According to the video, there exist “ABC Spaghettios” which have other letters (63%), but still lots of Os (37%).

threelonmusketeers,

Added links to the post body.

threelonmusketeers,

I have so much respect for Watterson for doing that. He could have made millions from licensing deals, but chose not to, purely for artistic reasons.

The Hobbes in this story was custom made by the boy’s aunt, which I hope Watterson would be fine with :)

threelonmusketeers,

Nice! The NYT took me 3:16, although I think this was my first one.

threelonmusketeers,

Vertical integration facility :)

threelonmusketeers,

Horizontal integration facility. Some payloads can be attached to a horizontal rocket which is then raised to a vertical position, while other payloads need to be attatched to an already vertical rocket.

threelonmusketeers,

Yeah, it sounds like they had to tweak some software to better utilize the remaining threads:

In response to this change, we modified the recording algorithm to be more sensitive to neural population signals, improved the techniques to translate these signals into cursor movements, and enhanced the user interface.

I wonder how many threads retracted?

threelonmusketeers,

I admit that in the past I’ve been a nasty. They weren’t kidding when they called me, well, a witch.

threelonmusketeers,

Maybe you were thinking of the fruits, rather than the birds?

threelonmusketeers,

Yeah, there are only a handful of Atlas V launches remaining at this point, so I guess they don’t want to invest heavily in optimizing the design at this point.

threelonmusketeers,

I love seeing all these new spaceports popping up around the world!

threelonmusketeers,

Huh, interesting. I wouldn’t have thought that adding a nitrogen compound to the exhaust would reduce the amount of nitrogen oxides, but I guess urea is a good reducing agent.

threelonmusketeers,

Yeah, I heard about it on a podcast a few weeks ago, but didn’t see a video until recently.

threelonmusketeers,

Wow, that’s some amazing digital detective work!

I haven’t investigated that extra data much.
It might be part of a ‘capture the flag’ game, or not.

Huh, interesting!

If you would indulge me, I have a few additional questions and suggestions:

Q1: Do you know if it would be possible to implement tools to detect and discard invalid data automatically?

metadata is stripped so people don’t unwittingly share their geolocation

Good to know; I had wondered about how metadata was handled.

Q2: Is metadata stripping unique to this server, or a Lemmy-wide standard?

If I recall, the size limit is 5M.

Q3: Is this limit set on a per-server basis, or a Lemmy-wide standard?

Q4:Would it be possible to implement automatic compression of large images?

Most modern phone cameras routinely take larger photos than 5MB.

Just some off-the-cuff suggestions, and I’m not even sure whether they would be best implemented by the instance or the platform.

Thanks for all of your help already!
