@andrealuck was Mars in the background in the original picture? The surface features look quite flat and low resolution like you put a simulated globe there? Or is this an actual atmospheric / angle of view effect?

@SherlockHans This is a real photo taken by the spacecraft, the surface is odd due to the perspective and the camera distortion. You can find the original image here: https://psa.esa.int/ the file is H7982_0000_ND3.IMG and time is 2010-03-26
