Man, I understand what they are going through. I could not imagine moderating Facebook.

I moderate a group of about 2,000. About once a month someone will do their 'nana. One today saying a father and daughter were deranged and out and about with a gun. Earlier someone whose dogs were once again out playing frogger on the highway finally had them collected by the pound (again) and called the person who summoned the ranger a few choice words, thereby publicly assassinating their own character.

Worst thing for me is that Facebook only gives the option to turn on post approval requirement for a member for 30 days, then they're set free and I have to hunt them down and restrict them again when they start cross posting irrelevant crap.

Is there any mental health treatment effective enough to remedy seeing this stuff for 8 hours a day? I can't see a scenario where you can walk out of that job unscathed unless you're a psychopath.

Cinner,

Nope. When government workers do it they only allow them to do it for short stints, mandatory counseling, and then they're done. Referring to specifically reviewing CP-and similar related cases, but there is plenty of that being shared on Facebook. We don't see it because it's reported and the paid moderators dispose of it quickly.

Even if you're not a psychopath to start with you would be a complete misanthrope with uncontrollable rage issues (if not a full blown psycho) before too long.

Genuinely moderating Facebook reminds me of the forced viewing in Clockwork Orange. Must be awful

Sama said all employees had unlimited access to one-on-one counseling "without fear of repercussions."

The fact that they feel the need to point out there are no repercussions makes me suspect that there are repercussions. Truly honest people don’t feel the need to convince you of how honest they are.
