In 2020, Swedish neuroscientists put 30 trans and 30 cis research subjects into a brain scanner and showed them pictures of their bodies. Then they showed them images where their body had been morphed to look more masculine or more feminine. The results support the natural order of gender identity.
@markwyner There are more questions with that. I know many women with boyish bodies, for instance, some very happy with their bodies, others feeling inadequate because of comments people make on their bodies, how society portrays bodies of women, so they feel they need big breasts to be validated as a woman. This is interesting, but a study of 60 people is never more than interesting. Then you start looking deeper and asking more questions.
@CStamp well, sure. But the point of this study is a catalyst in the right direction of refuting the bigoted belief that transgender identity is wrong, immoral, fake, a sickness, and whatever else is on the list. It’s not an absolute, but it is a positive finding.
@markwyner Maybe, but it could also reveal more about a patriarchal society's views of what women and men are. Early days. How did all those people perceive themselves, how close did they already fit stereotypical gender types, etc.
Caitlin Jennings coming out as a lingerie model on a magazine had 0 to do with what a women is and 100% to do with how our patriarchal society portrays women, for example.
