@davemark Yeah, they don't seem to have figured out that (as with, say, Seinfeld) the humor in Frasier mostly came from all of the other characters.
And none of the 'look how fancy I am' jokes work without even-fancier Niles there to enable them - with two people it's funny, with one it's just annoying and weird.
(Star Trek: Picard, while not actually a very good show, at least had the sense to not have every scene be about and/or starring Picard)
@elkmovie Picard turned a corner in season 3, became excellent (IMO). And I am loving Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks. Either do it for you?
@davemark Haven't watched enough of either to have a strong opinion yet but they seem fine.
Season 3 of Picard was better than 1/2, and I appreciated that it cleaned up the mess left by "Nemesis" and gave everyone a more satisfying ending, but I feel like the reveal + resolution of the conspiracy was disappointing and unimaginative.
@davemark Much like movie reboots, I think us faithful to the original will always be biased. It's the SNL Syndrome. "My generation's SNL will always be the best one." (For the record, 89-95 is hard to beat)
It's hard to allow beloved characters to change from how we remember them. I'll give it a go, definitely.
@davemark The trailer didn’t do anything for me. It felt very old-hat. Just a bit boring. Nice to see Nicholas Lyndhurst in the mix, but they could at least have called him Gary Sparrow to make people come up with all kinds of weird TV multiverse theories.

@davemark Ha! Goodnight Sweetheart is the reference to what I was talking about. The series is about a TV repair person who discovers a portal to wartime London. he ends upheaving a double life, in what’s presumably the world’s first time-travel bigamy sitcom. Having that name in Frasier would have been funny. At least, funnier than anything in the actual trailer.
