@popey The cause of the problem is most likely that the software does not support the wayland protocol. Tearing may occur when the software transfers the image via xwayland. There is no rule that says there will be tearing in every software.

@popey I get the same flicker in a POP OS laptop. Not even using multiple monitors. It doesn't happen with every app. Drove me nuts so I disabled animations in the settings.

@popey I'm pretty sure this is related to X11 applications running in Wayland. I'm on a different distro using a different desktop environment and the same happens for me, though it's only on X11 apps running in Wayland. Doesn't seem Ubuntu specific.
