Anyone got suggestions for a / that

• provides a standard 16(! not 8!) set of ANSI colors that actually correspond to the standard colors (i.e. green looks green, blue looks blue etc.)
• has good contrast between most of these colors, so that if a CLI tool decides to use gray-on-blue status bars, it’s still readable (this is actually the most important feature)
• uses neutral or warm colors (no blue-ish tint)
• optionally: has a 256-color variant for or

realestninja,

@scy Sounds like solarized except that it might be too blue/green 🤔

scy,
@scy@chaos.social avatar

@realestninja Solarized is basically the main reason why I've added "no blueish tint" ;)

jwalzer,

@scy

As solarized is completely computational theme, it should be possible to calculate it for some other gradient instead .. maybe @ethanschoonover has an idea/opinion on that?

@jwalzer @scy @realestninja There have been attempts to do this and some have been moderately successful. However I think one of the reasons that Solarized has been successful is that while it is foundationally mathematical it is also highly "aesthetically opinionated". I made as many choices based on my eye as a designer as I did based on my math nerd brain.

@scy Okay Cpt. ObViOuS calm down.

I just remembered the theme had wide support for many things, and thought I would send it your way to look into.

And you surely did with all that evidence you attached. 😂

scy,
@scy@chaos.social avatar

@michenriksen Yes, but it cost me time to look into it, and I wouldn’t have needed to do that because it obviously doesn’t fit my requirements. Sorry to be so blunt about this, but you were essentially sending me a useless reply that cost me time to filter out, so you were not only not helping me, but actively slowing me down. :(

@michenriksen@chaos.social avatar

@scy that really sucks. I hope no one died. :(

@scy I had to tweak everforest for use in my terminal (they don't have a reasonable concept of non-bright colors in dark mode), so it might or might not be useful for you.

There’s solarized, but I’m sure you’ve seen that already…

scy,
@scy@chaos.social avatar

@positivedinosaur Yeah Solarized is basically the #1 reason why I’ve requested “no blue-ish tint” ;)

positivedinosaur,
@positivedinosaur@twit.social avatar

@scy Wait, solarized has a blueish tint? 😳

I thought you wanted to stay away from things like catppuccin or Nord. 🤔

scy,
@scy@chaos.social avatar

@positivedinosaur Well Solarized Dark certainly does. Sorry, that might've been my mistake, I've assumed basically everyone is using dark terminals nowadays.

positivedinosaur,
@positivedinosaur@twit.social avatar

@scy I do. During northern-hemishpere winter, when there is no chance of random screen glare and the environment is generally very dark (at least where I live).
During what registers around here as summer, I use a light theme.

All that being said: I had not perceived solarized dark as "too blueish".
Maybe gruvbox is something for you?

I’m curious to learn what you find useful in the end!

@scy https://draculatheme.com seems fairly decent (pastel colors are the only way to stay true to the original colors), but I still have contrast issues, for example when vim syntax highlighting collides with vimdiff highlighting.
