@henryk I've seen that. But wouldn't you agree that using the headings "What is cURL" (the project), followed by "What is libcurl" (the library) and then "What is curl not" (the command-line tool) is a bit inconsistent?

Also, "What is curl not" says "it works perfectly well when used from or with PHP (when using the PHP/CURL module)". Ignoring for a second that they're introducing another spelling ("CURL") here, PHP is using libcurl, not curl the CLI tool.

Mein Bildungslückenschließen bei Marvel-Filmen geht weiter. Ich hab heute Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) gesehen.

Fand ihn recht gut.

TIL that you can

. <(some_command)

in bash to read bash-formatted variable assignments into the current environment. In other words, the dot ("source") command supports reading from process substitution.

some_command | . /dev/stdin

on the other hand does not work, I guess because it's running in a subshell…?

Replace some_command with something like echo foo=bar if you don't quite understand what I mean.

Who thought it was a good idea to let print "uploading item [id] to [name of local calendar]" when it's actually simply inserting some event from the remote side to the local one?

Imagine my anxiety when I tried to make extra sure (with read_only=true etc.) that it does NOT modify my Google Calendar while I'm setting everything up, only to then read hundreds of "uploading" messages?

(It simply always says "uploading", no matter what the destination is.)

As a dude, most of my visual info comes from assumptions for example, I imagine Klingons to be humanoids with extremely muscular bodies, but mostly like humans with no real characteristics that are different from humans except the clothes they wear.

scy,
@scy@chaos.social avatar

@gocu54 This sounds like Conan the Barbarian. :) While Klingons might indeed have very muscular bodies, we usually don't get to see them because they're wearing heavy clothes with thick leather, and often light patches of armor. They are tall, intimidating, often have long hair. It's more of a heavy metal fan aesthetic than a He-Man kind of vibe. And of course they are most recognizable by pronounced forehead ridges.

Let me know if I can describe anything else to you, happy to help.

scy,
@scy@chaos.social avatar

@gocu54 Also, Klingons have undergone multiple redesigns. What I've described are the TNG/DS9 era Klingons.

TOS era Klingons looked more like normal humans, no ridges, less physically threatening and more witty, with brown skin (often blackfaced actors) and Fu Manchu like mustaches.

Discovery made Klingons physically intimidating again, with almost demon-like faces and often intricate armor. And they made them bald, which was a stark contrast to TNG and made a lot of fans pretty angry.

scy,
@scy@chaos.social avatar

@gocu54 Yeah, we sighted people take a lot for granted and don't even think about describing it. I try my best to improve. And again, feel free to ask anytime, now or in the future, when you'd like a description of something or someone in Star Trek.

Also, did you know that some Trek shows have (in my opinion) pretty good audio descriptions available? As far as I know, both Discovery and Strange New Worlds come with description audio tracks for the blind.

gocu54, to StarTrek

So, question, and its because i just don't know. Why do all Ferengi sound like they have a lisp when they speak? I don't even know what they look like.

scy,
@scy@chaos.social avatar

@gocu54 In addition to what others have already replied (although I wouldn't say Ferengi have "big" teeth, but they're sharp and pointy, and somewhat crooked), check out the description in the "Biology" section of Memory Alpha's Ferengi article for a more detailed description, I find it well-written and pretty accurate:

As someone who's never played Borderlands, it looks fun. 🤷‍♂️ Also, I'm surprised that Jamie Lee Curtis is in this, I was not expecting her in such a wacky movie. Then again, she's been amazing in Knives Out, and that movie doesn't feel super serious either.

mitxela has built an matrix earring from 52 0201(!) LEDs (i.e. 0.65 × 0.35 mm footprint) on a 9 mm diameter circular PCB. Or rather, two PCBs soldered back-to-back because this density of components basically requires a four-layer PCB with blind and/or buried vias, which would've been very expensive. The video also features a "very cheap" (3600 USD) pick & place machine. I expect these to show up in makerspaces soon.
