Maybe a certain celebrity popularized a new hairstyle, or a new religion has more people donning robes? Are there new flying boots causing an increase in injuries among teens? Has the newer generation decided to do away with their grandparents' horn decorations as the social statuses they signify become less important to society?
I'm currently writing about New Jersey in the throws of what amounts to a gameshow apocalypse. Fashion hasn't really had a chance to change much from the present-day since we're only up to... Day 3 or 4 in my current draft chapters, Day 2 published.
That said, we'll probably see an increasing prevalence of things you would expect in a "system apocalypse" setting: improvised armor, hand-me-down clothes with lots of patches and repairs, mass-market clothes being extended wildly beyond their expected useful lifetimes out of pure necessity.
