4/21. If your MC’s main skill evaporated, would they survive the story?

I can't quite put my finger on what my MC's main skill is. But one of the characters tells her that her fated path depends on the choices she makes. If she had made different choices Kaori would have perished but she would have gone on to a different fate.

As for Ume, I am not sure that being impulsive and doggedly loyal is a skill. Main skill is being a disaster lesbian.

My Mcs tend to be rather ordinary people as far as their skill level goes. It is more about choices than skills.

Okay, that is the answer. My stories are not about skills but about choices. So the characters would survive.

2/2

So what happens if they lose their main attribute?

If Shiro lost her ability to empathize and place someone else needs before her own. Kaori would die and she would go on to be a normal office lady. Given she is a lesbian in an unfriendly environment and unable to take risks she would probably marry a convenient man and live a frustrated, lonely, unhappy life. She might have a mid-life crisis which would be a different novel, the kind I don't write. (Yet)

If Ume wasn't a disaster lesbian, she would recognize that she was in love and that Shiomi returned that feeling. We would have a "weirdtales horror" without a romance arc.
