How can you not remember what side of the car the gas tank is on?

Do these people frequently get in on the wrong side of the car to drive it too?

I was using this arrow more when I was driving different vehicles for work. We have two vehicles and each has the tank on the opposite side, so I had just trained myself to use the arrow now. Just something I had gotten used to doing I guess

Corporate vehicle, borrowed car from a friend/family member, rent-a-car, etc.

Pansexual_Iguana,

Got really bad ADHD so short-term memory things like this are not something I can remember consistently. There are other factors like new drivers or how others have mentioned using multiple vehicles due to work or leasing.

Rental cars?

I also drive multiple cars, and only one is on the wrong side. So that one’s always fun.

YSK that YSK where it is.

8to32characters,

I was like 2 years ago old when I found that out, and that was in my 40's! I still tell people and they're like 'OK Gramps!' and I don't care!

dufkm,

Yeah, but which of the two arrows though? The yellow one pointing to the right, or the white pointing to the left?

8to32characters,

psst... the little white one. We don't judge.

bl4ckblooc,

My 2003 BMW does not have this, however the gas tank is on the same side as the fuel nozzle in the picture on my gauge.

bloodsangre7,

Driving rental cars for a couple of years for work, this was super useful

RattlerSix,

Technically, the gas tank is pretty much always in the middle

Chup,

I have never seen such an arrow but does it even matter?

I just go to the 1st free pump, no matter which side. The hoses are made that long that you can fill in left or right. I just park a bit further ahead, so the hose can pass behind the car to the other side.

thesanewriter,

Yeah, this fact is really useful when driving someone else's car.

Tramdan,

Also there's usually a clip for your fuel cap on the inside of the flap

oxideSeven,

Mine doesn't even have a fuel cap. Lots of newer cars seal with the door only.

I think my Jeep has a cap holder but it doesn't work... It's not sized right or something. Probably not the OEM cap.

Spacecraft,

My truck has a fuel cap, but also has an electronic door. A little annoyed they didn’t go in the door sealing it direction lol. Also yeah my cap doesn’t really fit in the holder, didn’t with my last vehicle either.

TWeaK,

I know this, but I still get confused. Is it pointing to the left, because my fuel tank is on the right and I should be left of the pump? Or is it pointing to the side my fuel tank is on?

Maiznieks,

Points to the side where You're supposed to fill up normally. Probably this does not apply to all manufacturers.

TWeaK,

Yeah I think that's the thing, it's a standard that's not really standard.

thepiguy,

I like to refer to it as right-handed and left-handed gasoline.

Daq,

I learned this way too late in life.

_MoveSwiftly,

Could you please add a "Why YSK:"? It's rule #2. Thank you. :)

TheTetrapod,

That seems like a silly rule. So much of the time, like this, it's self-evident.

Pansexual_Iguana,

Hi sorry about that! Thought I had it in the text body my bad. Just added it in.
