Baking. Measuring isn't fun. I'd rather wing it.

Yes, I have never owned anything else. I really struggle to drive auto/CVT, honestly, it's so confusing for me.

Early 40s. Murica.

Hands down one of the worst "feature" of new vehicles IMO. If you need help on a hill, either use the parking brake like everyone else, learn to drive better, or just drive an auto.

Does the threadiverse (Lemmy + Kbin) seem ruder the last few weeks?

I dunno. I just feel less like I’m experiencing a fun new tool for communication the last few weeks. The communities here on Beehaw are still great and fantastic and aren’t what I’m bothered by. It’s just when I venture out in the world (which I often do) that I notice conversations are much more argumentative than I...

I came over with the initial reddit defector wave. I loved it here. You could have civil conversations, even when you disagreed with someone else. It honestly felt like the forums of the early 2000s again. Then it started getting more aggressive, and all the "well....aksually" type replies started happening. I find myself hardly on lemmy/kbin/beehaw anymore because of it.

AttackBunny,

Sadly no. I guess it’s a good thing. I’m just not on any social media much now.

AttackBunny,
AttackBunny avatar

It’s not about needing a safe space. It’s when you say something, and then someone comes by and starts picking apart one piece of what you said. Which never even relates to the conversation at hand anyhow. Or they try to “correct” you about some ridiculously minute grammar mistake/word choice. Or even better, they interpret what you’re trying to say completely wrong, and go on the offensive.

My mother-in-law lives with us and has been diagnosed with Alzheimers. We've been dealing with it for about a year but things are progressively getting worse. What are options for care?

She gets social security, and we don’t have a lot of money ourselves and are no longer able to be with her 24/7. We are in Maryland, and are scared of what we can do. Will her medicare do anything? Is it too late for something like long term care insurance? We have no idea where to start....

AttackBunny,

Probably depends on your state. CA (and IIRC all the west coast states plus some others) has euthanasia/assisted suicide options/laws in place.

AttackBunny,

I believe 211 works everywhere in the US. Call them (if not call your county's health and human services). They have access to all the health and human services for your county, and can direct you to all the people that can help you. IMO it's much better than blindly calling around to different departments/services yourself. The ones here in San Diego are really helpful, and can tell you about things you don't even know are possible.

AttackBunny,

that's for the specific user not a sub. Kinda weird.

AttackBunny,

No. Gives a bit more breathing room, so one thing probably won’t destroy me, but not enough to actually do anything with.

I’m pretty sure removing the “during pregnancy” part of the title would make it FAR more accurate.

Women historically receive less/worse treatment than men.

We wait an average of 65 minutes before receiving an analgesic for acute abdominal pain in the ER in the United States, while men wait only 49 minutes. Source

Also from the same article

women in pain are much more likely than men to receive prescriptions for sedatives, rather than pain medication, for their ailments.

I have personally experienced both, and have had my husband speak for me, after being dismissed, and got a wildly different response.

Studies show that women’s perceptions of gender bias are correct. Compared with male patients, women who present with the same condition may not receive the same evidence-based care. In several key areas, such as cardiac care and pain management, women may get different treatment, leading to poorer outcomes source

a study this month found that women are less likely than men to get CPR from a bystander, and are more likely to die.
The research, funded by the American Heart Association and the National Institutes of Health, found that only 39% of women who have a cardiac arrest in a public place were given CPR, versus 45% of men. Men were 23% more likely to survive source

I could go on and on about it, but women universally receive worse medical care.

Don’t forget the tax exemption status.

Female soldiers in Army special operations face rampant sexism and harassment, military report says (apnews.com)

U.S. Army Special Operations Command, in a lengthy study, reported a wide range of “overtly sexist” comments from male soldiers, including a broad aversion to females serving in commando units. The comments, it said, are “not outliers” but represent a common sentiment that women don’t belong on special operations...

Grew up in San Diego, which is surrounded by military bases (mostly marine corp and navy). This is absolutely the truth. There is also the whole never experiencing anything outside their bubble factor too. I've met a few pretty intelligent enlisted "grunts" who just never saw anything but their one stop sign town, that has NO diversity, and some really assbackwards ideas.

AttackBunny,
AttackBunny avatar

Not to diminish anything enlisted woman have gone through, but this is by no means unique to military service. I am a women, who works in a very male dominated field, and the hostility, belittling, sexism, etc I have to endure, that my male counterparts don't is massive.

About a year ago I decided to remove my name from my email signature. It’s mind boggling how different email replies/inquiries are now. People just assume I’m a man because making cars go fast = men things. When they finally meet me, or talk to me on the phone, there’s an instant demeanor change. Some not bad, others hostile.

AttackBunny,
AttackBunny avatar

How very Nissan of them. For a company that’s been building cars for about half a century, you’d think they’d have figured out the simple shit by now.

You can also gift something like 12 million in your lifetime tax free, so pass on as much as you can, to your family that way, before you die.

If you don’t keep all your money in 1 bank accounts the FDIC insurance will cover it. Iirc it’s either 250k per account, or maybe it was per person, per institution.

Wake up, bathroom things, put on running clothes, put on running shoes, get rest of running gear, and then go for a run. Come home shower, drink my green drink, then work.

AttackBunny,

I’m pretty sure that pretty much anyone else that’s ever been “delayed medical care” has the been out on house arrest. Why wasn’t he moved to a different jail, fed if necessary? Why did all these traitors get special treatment? Iirc the shaman asshat wasn’t getting his mommies organic food so he threw a fit and got some kind of special treatment too. Plus all the ridiculously comically light sentences.

AttackBunny,

Well, unless they are complete morons (looking at you Rudy) they are requiring payment in advance.

AttackBunny,

It’s funny you say that. Husband and I are 2 years apart in age. It’s amazing what 2 years does. He doesn’t understand tech. At all. He’s definitely gen x. I grew up being told I was gen x but now I might be millennial, I might be gen x or I might be a weird 2 year micro generation between the two. I’m really good with tech. I can just look at things and generally see how they work. I also started using tech/computers a lot earlier than he did, so maybe that’s why.

AttackBunny,

Maybe I’m dumb, but if I go buy property in Mexico (for instance) and the government decides to take it, or I stop paying on it, or run out of money, I don’t get any protections for my money. I can’t file for bankruptcy and keep my money safe. I gambled and lost.

Why do non American companies/people have the opportunity to file for bankruptcy as protection in a country they aren’t beholden to the rules of?

AttackBunny,

I do use reusable steel and glass bottles.

AttackBunny,
AttackBunny avatar

I rent so I’m stuck with that I’ve got. As I’ve said, I can’t do anymore due diligence here.

I've also had to switch water companies 4 or 5 times now because nestle keeps buying up the little local companies. I also use stainless or glass bottles for drinking out of.

Nestle claims they still used the same spring as the last company (which had the best tasting water) but as soon as nestle took over it tasted exactly like the rest of the arrowhead shit. Plus the service went to hell. So I switched to sparkletts.

AttackBunny,
AttackBunny avatar

I’ve tried multiple variations of those, and they all end up smelling/tasting horrible anyhow. Thanks though. What we are doing works well for us.
