In lighter news, #Amtrak continues to bring me great photo options. Taken from my seat on the #Acela. Trains are great, and I am looking forward to more people taking a chance on rail travel here in the US.
Was listening to an Alan Fisher music mix at work (as one does), and got to thinking about the Acela.
Looked it up on wiki.
Not only are the new trains going to be 10m longer (9 passenger short cars vs 6 long cars), there's also going to be 40% more trains.
So the total capacity of the fleet is going up from 6080 to 10808. A 77% capacity increase.
When they get the new trains into service we might see a real bump in passenger numbers simply from having more seats.

It’s #Amtrak day for me. We're zipping up the Northeast Corridor on the #Acela today, as the last leg of our 8 day trip around the US visiting family.
Of the three possible First class menus we lucked into geting the options we most wanted. Creme Brulee french toast was great this AM, and I'm looking forward to Lasagna later.
Great high speed link north from Washington, DC, avoiding any rough air from tropical storm #Ophelia, and then we’ll ease into town this evening on the #Downeaster.
Das #Oculus ist mehr als nur die #PATH Station vom World Trade Center. Hier geht es auch direkt zu vielen Subway-Linien und natürlich Einkaufszentren. Laut Wikipedia waren die Amerikaner über die Baukostenüberschreitungen so erbost, dass Stararchitekt #Calatrava keine Aufträge mehr in den USA bekam.
Das beste zum Schluss: Fahrt mit dem #Acela von Washington nach New York (bzw. Newark, weil Übernachten ist in New Jersey bezahlbarer). Der Eintritt auf den Bahnsteig erfolgt an der #WashingtonUnionStation durch das Gate E. #Amtrak
Innen macht der #Acela einen auf Flugzeug mit verschließbaren Gepäckfächern, Belüftung usw. Man merkt, dass die TGVs nicht mehr die neuesten sind: in Kurven schlug der Wagenkasten schon Mal hart auf. Die Federn sind offenbar ausgereizt. Aus dieser Perspektive würde ich den #NortheastRegional empfehlen: billiger, nur 30min langsamer, ruhigere Fahrt und bequemer. #Amtrak
