The back fell off. Some of them are made so the back doesn't fall off at all.

@Lana @briankrebs It’s just the _ Superleggera_ model. We’re a branding tweak away from a limited edition. Do what the Italian brands would do: Remove stuff, and charge more 🤣

@jerzone No two ways about it now, spring is here. So much in bloom and it’s great to see all the leaves starting to pop out on the trees. Bring me some shade!

Sure, I was stuck at work helping someone on my team with a network refresh gone wrong until after 1AM, but I was able to use some of the time get more than a dozen job applications submitted.

Maybe some good will come out of it…

A bit of fun news today, I ordered a new camera last night. It's an old model, a Nikon D7500, but it is brand new, and I feel like I got a pretty good deal on it.

My first DSLR was a D50. I now carry two D3100 SLRs with me when I'm out shooting. This new camera will be the first one I've owned that wasn't near the bottom of Nikon's more economical line of SLRs.

I will probably never own the latest, greatest thing, so I get excited when I can splurge a little.

@Topslakr@fosstodon.org avatar

@richard_merren @deadtom Yes! Getting a camera that still has the AF motor in it is a great way to maximize the lenses you can choose from in the Nikon F Mount. So many great deals out there on the ‘older’ AF-D lenses.

@jimsalter I assume you already know this, but the PracticalZFS site is not working. I'm getting "Peer’s Certificate issuer is not recognized." on my end.

I don't think the issue is on my end, but happy to be educated 😀 It started happening for me yesterday and, since you have a day job, I figure you'll get it fixed when you can...

But, just in case you didn't know...

Topslakr,
@Topslakr@fosstodon.org avatar

@tripplehelix Ha! Clearly… 🫠

I was on the web interface, on the person's page and ... well ... missed a step. Thanks!

Topslakr,
@Topslakr@fosstodon.org avatar

@jimsalter @tripplehelix Interesting. My bookmarks points to the full URL with discourse in the name, but I still get the error. This is the bookmakr I’ve been using since the site went live. No matter what permutation of the URL I use though, I still get the error.

Topslakr,
@Topslakr@fosstodon.org avatar

@jimsalter I must just be shadow banned 🫠

Even in a totally new browser, from a system 100% unique from my own, using the link you posted I can't get there. It fails on Firefox here on my local PC, and this is from Edge, on a Windows RD Server several states away. Differnet network. Different internet. Differnet aritecture.

I get it. Nobody likes me, everybody hates me .. I'm going to go eat worms 😁

@tripplehelix @jimsalter Interesting idea. But, yes. Time looks good all over.

I mean.. it’s not yet quiting time on Friday.. but it’s in sync.

Topslakr,
@Topslakr@fosstodon.org avatar

@jimsalter I’m sure Microsoft is going to get right on that, on Friday … at 5PM :)

Sorry to hear traffic has dropped off, but glad I’m not alone. I can’t get in on Firefox, Edge, Safari, Chrome, Windows, macOS, Linux (Debian) … no matter what I try and I need my ZFS chat fix!

And, it looks like Cisco Umbrella/OpenDNS has it flagged to, claiming it’s a phishing site.

Thanks for looking into it!

@jimsalter Without hesitation!

I can’t believe how inexpensive the Digidesign or AVID PRE units can be scooped up these days. 8 channels of great, clean, gain recallable and controlable from within Pro Tools for … ~$250? Yes, please!

I have a ‘blue face’ one already, and a ‘gray face’ one heading my way. I suspect they are litterally identical, but I’ll be cracking them open to compare.

jerzone, to solar
@jerzone@techhub.social avatar

Solar power realization: I should charge the plug-in car during sunny days. In the past it was programmed to happen overnight, hoping for a lower electricity rate. But, if there's power coming from panels, it’s much better to just have that go straight into the car rather than expect “selling" it to power company and using it later will be cheaper.

Topslakr,
@Topslakr@fosstodon.org avatar

@jerzone I’m sure it’s possible.

There would appear to be a blueprint in available (https://community.home-assistant.io/t/pv-solar-excess-optimizer-auto-control-appliances-wallbox-dish-washer-heatpump-based-on-excess-solar-power/552677) which might be a good start.

For 99% of tasks these days, there is no need to manually enter in a bunch of yaml code, the interface has enough if/then/else type flows that you can sort out most things.

I’d probably just setup two automations, one for on and one for off. Based on the data you can feed it getting a draft running should be the work of 10 minutes.

Topslakr,
@Topslakr@fosstodon.org avatar

@jerzone I would try to prod you toward doing it in the GUI, instead of yaml, since the project is trying to make yaml available, but not required .. but you programer types do love to program 😂

For me, mearly a sysadmin, I find the visual flow easier to follow in the GUI over the yaml side.

Topslakr,
@Topslakr@fosstodon.org avatar

@jerzone They are improving the GUI very quickly, which is great, but finding the right item for use in an automation is a big stumbling block for me.

These days I tend to spend some time in the weeds of each relevant device to find the exact name and type of entity I will need to get me from point A to point B in the automation flow.

Slowly though, I’m getting the hang of it..
