i see folks are using #DecRecs to share their favorite stuff in december, so i thought i'd jump in (5 days behind) with some #cnovelrecs partially recycled from twitter! these are mostly completed/completely translated novels since i have limited attention to keep up with updates but there are a couple exceptions so i'll note those. i'll also try and note if any are password-locked
glory by long qi (incomplete)
basically the type of sports anime where all the rival teams get sympathetic backstories but it's esports & it's a bl. highly readable even for the gaming parts.
includes: breakup/makeup but we weren't together in the first place, identity porn, "after approximately 3 seconds of psychological struggle, wei xiao accepted that he was gay", being weird and codependent and super horny for each other
greetings, ninth uncle by september flowing fire (completed novel, incomplete translation)
technically a rebirth novel but deviates from the past life stuff pretty quick. female protagonist is an absolute fucking stone cold snake, not in a "girl power!" way but in a "living in a feudal patriarchy destroys women's lives" way. she's seen for her true snake self by the love interest, who is very into her anyway and is like "she's right, actually"
I forgot to do my #DecRec yesterday. So I'll do two of them. Since I just finished the latest in Louise Penny's Inspector Gamache series, I'll recommend that entire series. There are a couple of books that are painful in execution and the change in the narrator for the #audiobook due to the death of the previous narrator is a bit jarring, this series is solid, philosophical, deals with corruption, human condition, and is gorgeous. Penny is underrated.
Continuing my #fanfic#rec thread:
One of my @wangxian comfort reads is "Three changes" by orange_crushed, a Cloud Recesses era AU (no war etc) with a lwj pov. The writing is so beautiful & sensual, you really experience lwj's emotional turmoil and attraction, and wwx is just like in cql, irresistible, kind and brilliant. There's only brief angst, mostly the two do this sweet, hesitating dance around e/o.
