This #MarsExpress image shows what appears to be a large patch of fresh, untrodden snow – a dream for any lover of the holiday season. However, it’s a little too distant for a last-minute winter getaway: this feature, known as Korolev crater, is found on Mars.
@andrealuck@tom30519 it casts a shadow too, I wonder if the wedge to the left of the bright blob is the actual rim, or if it is all a huge cloud elevated by the crater's microclimate.
A good question if whether this phenomenon has been seen before here. Kind of counterintuitive that a cold trap would push such a cloud up 🤔
