Just won a game on where I proliferated poison counters from an empty board for 9 consecutive turns while my opponent kept stealing my deck with Siphon Insight looking for my win con... not knowing that my win con was already on board!

Deck
16 Island
4 Opt
2 Thrummingbird
4 Mist-Cloaked Herald
4 Contentious Plan
4 Flux Channeler
4 Karn's Bastion
4 Lotus Field
4 Experimental Augury
4 Prologue to Phyresis
4 Tekuthal, Inquiry Dominus
2 Vivisurgeon's Insight
4 Lost Jitte

Updated List... slightly more consistent but still a "win on turn 3, 4, or 5... or just lose" gambit deck:

Deck
16 Island
4 Opt
4 Chart a Course
4 Mist-Cloaked Herald
4 Contentious Plan
4 Flux Channeler
4 Karn's Bastion
4 Spectral Sailor
4 Lotus Field
4 Experimental Augury
4 Prologue to Phyresis
4 Lost Jitte

Can anyone recommend a good Explorer Legal card that would fit in the deck and help with consistency? Maybe something that let's me pitch islands for draw?

Looking for a fun new deck in - maybe with Urabrask’s Forge with red/white tokens?

Googling hasn’t produced what I’m looking for… any suggestions, friends?

Mythweaver Poq is so miserable to play against in brawl. Like even if you remove it, they play one land when it comes into play and they can recast it next turn and it comes back bigger. It only costs four so you can pretty consistently cast it at turn 3. Like it just feels like an inevitable loss. It's miserable. I think the only way to rebalance it would be to make it cost 7 or to make it a 4/4 instead of having it grow.

I'm so excited for Khans of Tarkir to hit next week! For some reason I was convinced it was going to be a remastered set full of fate reforged cards but actual, full triple Khans is going to be amazing.

Every once in a while I see people complaining about the Arena tutorial. Rightfully so, as it sucks as a way to introduce people to the game and the Arena interface.

I have never been in this position before, but if I were asked how to start with Arena, this would be my advice right now (a thread):

(note: just my opinion, other people may have a totally different opinion, which is fine by me.)

I've been obsessively playing this single deck for like a year now?

While it has a better than even win-rate it's definitely not "top-tier" and its success in the meta varies dramatically, but

  1. It's highly cognitively engaging in terms of calculating lines of play.

  2. It is super emotionally rewarding because every time it wins, it's the sort of win where you claw your way back from the brink of annihilation in some absurdly convoluted way that shocks the opponent.

I don't play , I only dabble in , but I'm a big fan and I really like the card art. Convince me otherwise to not get the cards. (Oh, and this argument will be repeated in 2025 when the MTG cards are out.)

To, to MagicTheGathering

Let's not talk about the other ones, but this deck is loving me today. 💕 I'm spending the whole day staring down boards that are so much stronger at first glance and winning super close games.

Oh, and it's always great to see people lose to their own Black Market Connections (They boardwiped Eriette and my flying creature away this turn). I know a lot of people love the card, but I think they overvalue it a lot of times and it's actually bad in a lot of decks that play it.

Board in Magic Arena. Opponent has an 11/11 Korvold, but it luckily is enchanted and can't attack. My board isn't amazing, but Opponent will either die to my Eriette or their Black Market Connections.

I just want to get to Diamond 4, please let me stop ranking up one tick away and then falling back to Plat 2, this has happened three times already, it's starting to affect my ability to work.

Do the people roping on the ladder understand that I'm playing on the clock and profit out of every second I wait for their heads to explode?

You'd have to be an idiot to play any of the ranked formats currently under the shadow of the One Ring when Standard is so much fun right now.

This Midweek Magic came exactly at the right time. I was close to spending gold on a Brother's War Quick-Draft, but the event reminded me of how much I hate this pack in limited. It never feels like "Which great deck can I draft?" at all. Instead, it's more of a "Which is the least horrible garbage I can come up with" draft. At least to me.

BrackmeisterMTG, (edited ) to MagicTheGathering

Picked myself a Boros artifact/two for one/unearth decklist during today's phantom BRO bot draft.
Performance was quite nice so far with 6:1 and games were fun, even the one that I lost.

I crafted a lot of staples for Historic Brawl over the last couple of months and it's finally time to get a use out of it. I'll try to build and experiment with a new Brawl deck every day for a while. It's always great to work towards getting better at building and finding Commanders you like.

The first deck is "Big Green Ramp" piloted by Nissa. It's a very simple deck. Play huge Himbos. Make them bigger. Profit!
I got really used to this strategy, thanks to playing a lot of Etali recently. The dino pilots one of the most beginner and F2P-friendly decks I have built so far.
As much fun as Etali is, playing Mono Green is at least as entertaining. I had some pretty crazy games with the deck. Nissa has a lot of potential to suddenly win out of nowhere against opponents who thought they're completely controlling the game.

It's not a complex deck or strategy, but it's fun to play while your brain is taking a break every now and then.

Board state in Magic Arena. The situation is similar to before, but the creatures are way less buff this time. It's a close win.

To,

It's the second day of me experimenting with more Historic Brawl decks and I decided to try out something in Azorius colors. My first attempt was Will, Scion of Peace. I like this version a lot more than the Rakdos attempt, but I'm missing too many good lifegain cards. I managed to win one match against Arwen. It was with a lucky wrath that only killed the other side of the board. It didn't feel like a win for the deck itself.
Put it on ice for now, but the match made me love the white boardwipe from the new Eldraine set even more. Absolutely underrated wrath, but also hard to compete with Sunfall and Farewell.

After that, I tried to build something different in the same colors. I'm not sure how to call it. Maybe Aggro Flyer. The whole deck consists of flying creatures and interruptions. It is a bit janky but has some fun interactions. The only problem is that I don't own a great legendary bird. I decided to go for Pippin for some cheap protection for my birds. I bet Pippin loves birds 🐦 ❤️
This led to the next problem with the deck... The game thinks this commander deserves to fight against stuff like Korvold, Etali and Liliana. Yeah, definitely nothing a few (un)common birds can handle 😅😅

To, to MagicTheGathering

Thanks to Eriette, I'm getting a lot into Orzhov Gain and Drain decks right now. Tried to get it running with a still limited cardpool in Standard and included a small engine into a token deck.
I wouldn't take the deck into ranked yet, but it's a lot of fun to play and the results in casual are pretty good so far. It's just struggling with the speed of some of the popular decks sometimes.
Well, I'll keep working on it and other decks with a similar idea.

To, to MagicTheGathering

I had the chance to playtest my "Budget" Eriette deck a bit more. The win rate is still over 50%, which is more than I could have hoped for, but I had to make some changes. I put some Auras (mostly the "Get creature back after it dies" ones) out of the deck and replaced them with actual protection and a second wrath spell. Works a lot cleaner now.

Eriette definitely has the potential to become one of my favorite Brawl Commanders and I'm more than ready to put some higher rarity wildcards into it in the future. I mean, it's doing well, but it still misses some punch and maybe 3-4 creatures more... that are actually worthwhile in the deck.

So far, one of the things I like the most about Eriette are the matchups. They seem surprisingly fair for Arena and I face a lot of commanders I haven't seen at all with my other decks. Nice! I'm all for more variety.
