#MineralMonday Here's a nice thin section image of a twinned chloritoid crystal (big grey-green crystal - centre of view), with smaller flaky green chlorite crystals, in mica schist from Shetland. Plane polarized light view (pale colours), and crossed-polars view(bright colours) Field of view 2mm wide. #Geology#Mineralogy#ThinSection
#MineralMonday Here's a gorgeous agate from the Paleocene basalts of South Mull, which was brought along to the Stone Chat event in Bunessan on Saturday. 😊😋🥰 #Geology#Mull#Agate#StoneChat
I have no strong feelings for today's #MinCup23 match! Sodalite is a tectosilicate which is often used as an ornamental gemstone. Stibnite is a sulphide mineral containing antimony, expands when frozen (just like ice) and looks metal af so I think it gets my vote today
#MineralMonday Andalusite in the chiastolite form (crosses) in schist. From the Littleton formation in Sterling MA. Town next door, Lancaster, has larger crystals.
For #MineralMonday here’s a spirifer brachiopod geode (infilled with calcite) under 365nm ultraviolet light. I love how it’s shaped like a bat, and that the brachidium in cross section looks like a wee heart 🦇🖤 #ScottishFossils
