What a match! Ding going for it all in the last rapid tiebreak was right out of a fictional playbook for the most exciting possible match. I still wish the match weren’t decided in rapid games, but at least it wasn’t blitz or Armageddon (ugh)! And those last moments at the board with Nepo…devastation. All the drama you could ask for.

♟️ Since everybody is talking about Liren being the First Chinese World Chess Champion - and I see that the press conference repeats this - it would be more accurate to say that he is the First Chinese Male World Chess Champion.

In 1991, Xie Jun defeated Maia Chiburdanidze and became the first Chinese Women's Chess Champion, ending over a decade of dominance by Soviet players. She kept the title until 1996.

Nepo and Ding are doing the chess equivalent of swashbuckling. Pretty wild game.

(Question from the audience) "Daniil, do you like classical Russian literature?

Dubov: "Yeah, I like Kasparov's books. Then there's also Tolstoy."

Our commentators are getting as exhausted as the players.

(Yes, today's game is being another rollercoaster.)

Irina Krush: "Daniil, you are only allowed to disagree with me another 35 times today."

Daniil Dubov: "Well... not really, in fact..."

Krush and Dubov would make a great stand up comedy duo.

Last game of the World Championship with the score standing level. A draw in this game will result in fast time control play offs. I guess Ding wants to win it in this game, because as White he is throwing down the gauntlet
