I was hoping to wait for official Linux support to try Proton Drive, but circumstances* have driven me to try it sooner rather than later, on Windows. (I'm aware that rclone supports the Proton Drive API, so maybe I will explore that in the future.)
So far, Proton Drive seems to work quite well. I like how it uses the same online/offline file availability status indicators as OneDrive on Windows.
#SpiderOak is no longer getting new features. I know that so often this is what we say we want (software stability!), but as a corporate product, it does make me concerned about availability and longevity, especially from the perspective of psychology and developer interest.
Well, the #SpiderOak client got confused with syncing a directory with caps with another with no caps, and I lost all the PDFs I had been saving for filing my taxes.
I've heard others complain how the software has not been updated in years, and it's obvious checking their website that they don't care for non-business users anymore.
Time to look for a better #backup alternative. Any recommendations?
Found some stuff about #SpiderOak, and I used to use them (as in paid account) for encrypted cloud backup. They pretty much shut that down to pursue other things (encrypted collaboration). Now, they've abandoned those things for more different things. They now seem to be pursuing satellite security. Like, why would you even consider them given their track record of starting then abandoning software directions? They're worse than Alphabet in that regard, I think.
