#Celtic #WyrdWednesday: There were portals or gates between the worlds like #Oweynagat through which the fairy folk came forth and through which humans could pass to visit them. However, for most people, the passage was one way, for it was rare for humans to return from fairyland— although they might return so far distant in time or place that they found nothing familiar to greet them.

#WyrdWednesday: As a boy Elidyr used a hole in the riverbank as a portal to #Fairyland. He encountered two little men who took him to the #Otherworld, where he lived in ease and joy. All was beautiful there—bountiful land, beautiful people, endlessly sunny weather.
But when the prospective #Welsh hero tryed to steal a little gold ball he was caught by the fairies, who were angry and disappointed at his actions. They did not punish him but allowed him to go back to the surface world, free and safe. But thereafter, no matter how he sought, Elidyr could never find that riverbank entrance to fairyland.

Tinker & Sheep. This is the very last illustration I painted and then scanned. Now all my hardware is packed away for our move to Europe in just a few days!

A fairy tale tells how the tenant Gottfried once did a service for an #Elf. He proved to be generous. And when the #Scotsman should be hanged innocently for robbery murder, the old man in the green robe from the 'good people' brought him in safety. However, when he returned after only one night in the palace of the #Faeries, 100 years had passed. After seeing the grave of his wife, his heart did not like to continue beating.

There were two colours most often associated with #Fairyland or the #Otherworld: green and red, with the latter being the more popular colour for trooping #fairies, while solitary fairies tended to favor green.
