I'm not rich, but I don't spend more than I earn in interest on my Bitcoin, so I'm having a hard time motivating myself to look for a job. I've been a web developer for about 25 years, and though I like the work, I can't stand the people. They are ego-maniacal, bad at communication, and humorless in general. There are exceptions, but they get cowed by louder more aggressive ones. "So contract" I hear you say; but here's the weird thing; I actually like working with people.
#WebGPU, #WebBluetooth, and #WebSockets open up so many possibilities too. I see so many hardware makers shipping web-based configuration tools these days and I'm HERE FOR IT! There's almost nothing the web can't do these days.
@stevenaleach Exciting!
I think using CIDs as filenames might be confusing tho, as different CIDs can come from the same data (eg. you use CIDv0 but some future server sharing it uses CIDv1; or if someone switches from SHA256 to Blake3; or if that server uses different settings to yours).
The #InternetArchive has a non-functioning #Filecoin (storage) and #IPFS (transfer) option for retrieval they’ll hopefully be fixing, perhaps uploading with human filenames would be better?
@willscott there's actually a pretty complex set of variants of how car files can be sent from a web gateway, including ordering and whether you repeat blocks. (Intrigued by who uses these optimizations -- often this stuff gets implemented because #filecoin storage providers are stress-testing bits of IPFS in their work, but not sure that's the case here)
this was a great discussion, we talked about tooling (and ended up exploring some convos about IPFS chat https://tinyurl.com/ipfschat on https://pol.is/ a tool that we're building on in the #filecoin universe too), gardening and documentation, oral cultures in a zoom era, Coasean floors and teasing out the elemental parts of a governance organization)
So I know some people diss #IPFS because of the #cryptocurrency linkage to it. I still think it is a great thing; it is a really cool way to decentralize data with the big providers and allow things to keep being hosted for as long as someone pins the files to their local cache.
Just curious if anyone else is taking advantage of the IPFS network.
@kianga@hack13http://fleek.network is a company that's building a decentralized IPFS CDN to make it faster. They haven't released the whitepaper yet, but it seems very promising; sort of like #Filecoin, but for IPFS Gateways.
alright, I think it's time to translate the #NWB spec language to RDF and start on the first leg of getting this p2p thing off the ground and mirror all the neurophysiology archives. got a big stack of hard drives and bandwidth going to waste
Just like #Helium / #HNT only results in transciever hardware being harder to get without paying scalpers whilst also spamming the #spectrum to the point that I think it's overdue that @BNetzA kicks in doors and unplugs that shit for violating #SpectrumRegulations...
@Cmdrmoto And since I get paid for setting up shit that works, I'd rather use #S3 or god forbid #WindowsHomeServer's Storage Spaces over #Filecoin & #Chia because if these don't work it's me who f**ked up...
