Looking Southeast along Great Western Road from Saint Mary's Episcopal Cathedral. The cathedral was designed by George Gilbert Scott and was built in the 1870s. The spire was added by his son, John Oldrid Scott, in the 1890s.

Interestingly, around the same time, John Oldrid Scott also added the distinctive spire to the Glasgow University building his father had designed in the 1860s/1870s.

Glen Tower on Beaconsfield Road in the west of Glasgow. This grand Renaissance style villa with its distinctive tower feature was built around 1887. It's first occupant was James Thomson of the Finnieston Engine Works.

Traditional red sandstone Glasgow tenement building on Great Western Road in Glasgow. This one is slightly unusual in being five storeys tall, rather than four. The iron railings between the chimney stacks along the top suggest it may have originally been designed to have a roof top terrace/drying green, but it now has a more conventional pitched roof.
