Interesting to see 115 years of lichen growth: the same outcrop of metamorphic rock in Mull from a photo published in 1910, and from last year. Given that deglaciation was ca. sixteen-and-a-half thousand years ago, the early C20th outcrop was still remarkably free of lichen. This is so cool! There is an annual mass #biodiversity experiment in Danish schools, which this year involved 30,000 kids collecting + examining samples of moss + lichen. Only 5% have been examined so far but they've already discovered 5 species of water bear unknown to science.
