Our first visit to was dinner on Easter Sunday. They had a few specials, and I had to try the truffled egg tarts. We did not expect the dish to be that large. The husband and I each had one, and then we ended up sharing the third to a new friend we made that night. Overall, I enjoyed the dish, and the tart was nice and flaky. /1

Everything was delicious except that I thought that there was too much truffle oil, to the point where it overpowered everything. I generally find that with truffle oil, sparingly is the best usage.

The husband had the ribeye melt, which he enjoyed. It normally comes with fries but you can get a small salad instead, or a small modern Caesar for an additional price, which is what the husband did. He really liked the salad. /2

I opted for the turkey bolognese, which I really liked. It was a very generous portion, with plenty of meat. I would have liked more sauce but I generally find that to be true for me for most pasta dishes.

The donuts were tempting but we were too full so we'll have to try them another time. /3

Even though we had a reservation, we ended up sitting at the bar, which we enjoyed. Bar seating is on a first come, first served basis, and there are even four loveseats, two on each side of the bar. I've never seen those before.

They have a menu that's available all day and includes brunch items. I saw a big plate of pancakes go by and will need to try that for brunch sometime. /4

It's nice to have a meal option that's more of a family restaurant that isn't a buffet and isn't a character meal. It's a non-Disney-owned restaurant who handles the food service for the entire hotel. This is their fourth location, with other restaurants in Pasadena, Newport Beach and San Diego. /5 end

So we discovered that on the first floor of , there are 16 silhouettes of characters on the floor, so we went on a quest. Unfortunately, 1 is currently inaccessible as it's on the floor of the A elevator, which is not currently in service. Will have to go back and look for that another time.

In the broader picture, you can see how small the silhouettes are. 1/4

Of course, all the signage is themed to characters. Hey, you can go into the women's restroom without having to wear a dress! 1/3

The mobile characters in the Pixar Place Hotel lobby represent how at the start of filmmaking we often boil the characters down to their basic shapes to see how the silhouettes would quickly read. Here's some of my concept sketches for the mobile.

The finished mobile in the Pixar Place Hotel lobby. The characters are simple shapes made from translucent plexiglass so the light from the skylight shines through them.
