ChatGPT Answers Programming Questions Incorrectly 52% of the Time: Study (gizmodo.com)

The research from Purdue University, first spotted by news outlet Futurism, was presented earlier this month at the Computer-Human Interaction Conference in Hawaii and looked at 517 programming questions on Stack Overflow that were then fed to ChatGPT....

Seeing the trajectory is not ultimate answer to anything.

14th_cylon,

There is a good chance that it is instrumental in discoveries that lead to efficient clean energy

There is exactly zero chance… LLMs don’t discover anything, they just remix already existing information. That is how it works.

And here I thought I was cool with my 8digit number starting with “1”

14th_cylon,

I could do this in about five seconds with Corel PhotoPaint.

that is because you are familiar with corel photopaint. i could do that faster than you in gimp, because i am familiar with gimp.

and yes, using tool capable of doing lot of complex tasks takes more time to learn than some single-purpose tool that is optimized to do one task (and even then you have to learn how to use it). that is like wondering that learning to pilot aircraft takes longer than learning to ride on a bicycle.

14th_cylon,

The currently enabled Autopilot and Full Self-Driving features require active driver supervision and do not make the vehicle autonomous.

14th_cylon,

Then driver should have slowed down, that’s how cars work…

bon apetit. when you are done, i will donate one million dollars to charity of your choice. i don’t have one million dollars. i will still honor my promise.

there is 2^64 - 1 (roughly 5.53 * 10^17) grains of rice on the board.

according to google, grain of rice averages at about 30 miligrams (per random google result), which makes the rice on the board to weigh about 553 402 322 211 metric tons.

The total world rice production for 2022 was 776 461 457 metric tonnes (per wiki).

((2^64−1) × 0.03) / (10^6) / 776461457 = 712,72

so there is about 712 times as much rice as the whole earth’s 2022 rice production.

this is why it is important to understand basic math in school, even if you don’t plan to become a scientist.

because then the covid comes, and all these university of life graduates with their youtube research and common sense have absolutely no idea how fast the exponential curve is growing and what it means for the spread of the illness.

i understand you might have known this and being sarcastic with your post.

14th_cylon,

People who suggest, let’s say, firing employees of crisis intervention hotline and replacing them with llms…

14th_cylon,

i approve of that. it is funny and there is no harm to anyone else other than the shareholders, so… 😆

14th_cylon,

These fuckers see it as well. Fuckity fuckity fuck.

14th_cylon,

their traffic data has no rivals

do you mean the waze traffic data, or does google actually have some of its own?

14th_cylon,

point A and B are already known for each route, so more of the route could be “hardcoded”

yeah, and it is all good until there is any kind of non-standard situation on that road.

luckily for truckers, i think that truly self-driving cars are further into the future than their proponents would like you to believe.

14th_cylon,

Have you heard of “pedestrian controlled” trucks

they are called forklifts and they are around for quite some time now 😆

14th_cylon,

oh my. the… motorized pedestrian truck driver klaus. haven’t seen this gem in some time.

14th_cylon,

i would guess these would be last. the garbage cans are not on the highway, they are in potentially hard accessible places, where some maneuvering and judgement may be required.

Bark Air, a new luxury airline for dogs, launching flights in May (www.scrippsnews.com)

Why I think this is dystopian: the rich are spending their money to fly their pets on private jets instead of, I don’t know, giving a shit about anyone but themselves. And the government lets them. So, while we gasp at grocery prices, Ivanka Trump’s dog will be flying first class.

14th_cylon,

there could easily be one foldable kennel on board for such occasion. also - muzzles.

Why I think this is dystopian: the rich are spending their money to fly their pets on private jets instead of, I don’t know

the rich are already spending their money on flying their pets private; this article is about scheduled service, which is exact opposite of private flying.

putting your dog into cargo space of an airplane is a lottery that may not end well: there have been stories where the dog was left on tarmac in extreme temperatures and died from overheating, even when its owner paid some premium package that promised to handle the dog with extra care, for example.

so while we should definitely think twice if we need to use the airplane for a week long vacation we will spend drinking margaritas by the hotel pool, if i were offered a job across the ocean, being able to get my dog with me and being sure she survives the trip would be a deal-breaker for me.

what is notable here is it seems to me that at this point it is project that exists in a dream of some marketing expert who knows more about hipster bulls…t than dogs, so we will have to wait if the service actually lifts off the ground to see how it looks in reality.

from the article:

Before boarding, dogs will be treated to calming pheromones, music and colors they like best.

right, dog’s favorite color… 😂

14th_cylon,

this is (wants to be) commercial service operated by private business and has no relation to your government and how it handles healthcare.

because blocked is considered good and federated bad… i assume.

    14th_cylon,

Right, correcting your incorrect information is “weird flex”. What are you, five?

On my Mi Max 3 it does not work as well. In “configure buttons” section of menu there is no call emergency number action, neither is there press [any button] five times trigger available. So clearly the function your phone has is not universal. What a wild world do we live in!

    14th_cylon,

Which Android version are you on?

    10 qkq1.190910.002

    14th_cylon, (edited )

might be. might also be miui thing, i don’t know.

the fact remains that (android does x) does not equal to (some subset of android does x)

edit: seems the function was added in adroid 12 - arstechnica.com/…/uk-police-blame-android-for-rec…

which means that as of right now it is available to 60% of android users - gs.statcounter.com/…/worldwide/

    14th_cylon,

Yeah, maybe don’t have a pussy if you don’t want it being touched, duh…
