Dynamic vs Static is a huge debate that I’m not qualified to answer. My personal preference is static because I like to know my mistakes at compile time instead of after running and something weird happens. That goes along with my preference that all variables should be declared at the top of a function.
TL;DR It was an old Wang system, 286 processor(I think, anyway), with no hard drive, a 5.25" floppy drive, and a lovely green monochrome monitor. I didn’t have it long enough to reach the point where I could have identified the actual hardware/specs....
I’ve tried using Google Sheets but it can’t manage simple mailing labels that Excel has been able to do for the past 30 years. In Google sheets, you need to sign up for a monthly subscription plugin to get that feature.
I think the last version I bought was 2003 student edition- which anyone could buy because didn’t need online registration with a student email.
I did sign up for office 365 to help my wife with some vba scripts. It’s insidious because you can turn the subscription on and off but forget to turn it off.
my understanding as a layperson is that the heat thing was simply a cover story
A thicker filament lasts longer but radiates more heat into the infra red. There was no compact fluorescents or LED’s. By not undercutting each other, the cartel profited more but this also benefitted the consumers. If the cartel hadn’t done it, the government should have.
It would be the same if a cartel formed a few years ago to only sell LED bulbs instead of incandescent. Then a bunch of yokels with their “Don’t take my incandescent light bulbs and my gas stoves!” got their representatives to investigate. A congressional record of manufactures conspiring to switch to more efficient (but also more expensive) LED lighting would then exist for future generations to think there was an evil conspiracy. When really it was something the government should have regulated.
Meh. The only problem of manufacturers raising prices is out of control executive pay. If the workers are getting more money because a product is desired, then they should benefit.

Yo, what was your first computer? How old were you, where and how did you get it, what did you do with it, etc.

What is an average person living in the US supposed to do about corporations raising prices?
They keep raising prices, stating that it’s due to inflation, but then they keep having record profits....
