I am an evangelical Christian who loves people. You definitely don't have to agree with me to be friends with me. I also love reading (science fiction, humor, mystery), old-time radio, and sleeping. I am very happily married to https://tweesecake.social/@technolass.

My brother, when I was a kid, had this really expensive stereo. I loved using it to record my records onto tape. Unfortunately, one time I brought a friend down and we were talking while I was recording. The stylus was so sensitive that it picked up our voices in the background.

One of the things about Winnipeg that I'm really proud of is Folklorama. It's the largest and longest-running multicultural festival in the world.

I have my computer hooked up to a bluetooth speaker, but the first bit of sound keeps getting cut off whenever NVDA speaks. I know there was a program that has not been updated for a while called Bluetoothaudio. Since it hasn't been updated though is there another program that will keep the cutoff from happening? Is there a program that works with JAWS? I already know about silencio but it keeps breaking my sound drivers for some strange reason. Any other ideas? Anyone?

Bruce_Toews,

@EJGilbert If you go into Jaws Settings center, then make sure you're in the default settings, then under user setings, there's a "avoid speech cutoff" option. Turn that on and you should be good to go.\

Does anyone like Bill Gates? People on the right are convinced he's involved with every conspiracy they cancome up with, and the people on the left don't like the fact that he's amassed wealth (Tim Cooke gets an eternal pass).

From the Victor Reader Stream List:

Hello everyone!

Version 1.3.1 of the Stream 3 is now available. You can manually check for update on your Stream 3, or simply reboot, to receive the update.

This hotfix includes a fix to the issue some people had when more than a few hundred folders are present in either the internal memory or the SD card and was causing the offline bookshelf not to load.

There are also 2 minor fixes to newspapers delivered through DOD in Sweden and the Netherlands.

Here are the links to download the update manually should you need it.

Bruce_Toews,

@bmoore123 Many people say it does, yes. I always use headphones.

Bruce_Toews,

@Rachelk @serichsen @bmoore123 They've pretty much got it now. There are a couple of minor things, but it's a very workable player now.

Bruce_Toews,

@silverleaf57 @ablade @munchkinbear @Rachelk @serichsen @bmoore123 I honestly consider that a plus. I find noise cancelation to often be more problematic thanuseful when it's done on the fly.

No history text should be assumed to be completely accurate. As you read a history, if you're serious about learning it, stop andcheck the facts that interest you. You may learn some additional facts, you may learn that your trusted source got something wrong. Where some history exists as a recording, see if you can listen to or watch it, to experience that aspect of it yourself. No single source of history will get itright every time.

Many Thanks to Tiflotecnia and Access Mind For the New Vocalizer NVDA Addon https://groups.io/g/tech-vi/message/6892

Bruce_Toews,

@DavidGoldfield At any rate, the upgrade is around $90 Canadian. You can't actualy find that out until you're in Paypal, asking you to complete your payment. Can't afford that, but I'm sure it's reasonable.

Bruce_Toews,

@bmoore123 @DavidGoldfield Well, it told me ninety-something dollars. That was the upgrade price.

This was posted to the VRStream mailing list:

Hi everyone,

AudibleSync released the 1.8.16 version yesterday. That new version includes the support for the Stream 3!

Right now, you'll be able to connect your Stream 3, see it in AudibleSync, activate the player, and transfer books, but you won't be able to play them yet as the Audible app is not in the current 1.2 version.

Once 1.3 releases, then you'll be able to play books!

Two things about Audible:

1- The activation file is now dropped in the internal memory on the Stream 3. No need to "activate" each SD card separately anymore!

2- There is currently a performance issue where if you have more than 2-3 books, it can take a few minutes for the Stream 3 to show up in AudibleSync. The workaround is to move the books to an SD card, or wait a few minutes. We have been told that this will be resolved in a future build of AudibleSync sometime this summer.

The official announcement will be sent out on Monday for the 1.3 release, but as a small token of my appreciation to you all, I wanted to give you a heads up: the new Stream 3 1.3 update will be coming on Monday!

Stay tuned on Monday for the official announcement, and I will post the release notes here then, but with Audible and a lot of improvements, I think you'll love it!

Is there a better reader for both inaccessible and accessible PDFs than Adobe? It will not for the life of me let me out of this one screen, and I’m getting annoyed with it.

Bruce_Toews,

@technocounselor I typically use Q-Read for PDF files.

Bruce_Toews,

@jaybird110127 @technocounselor For scanned images, if you have JAWS, Convenient OCR is your best bet. For forms, at least the ones we get from work, nothing seems to work but Adobe.

The AI picture descriptions would be so incredibly more useful if they would alow for more specific information. I rean a picture of Transit Plus vehicles through the AI, and asked it if there was anything written on the vehicles. It said yes, but it would't tell me due to privacy reasons.

Not sure how many are interested, but we are doing a group online Earth Day Community Ritual on Sunday.

You can do the ritual provided (I can DM it to you) or one of your own choosing then post pics if you want.

Witches all over the US will be doing rituals on that Sunday (the day before Earth Day, April 22) so it's a great time to lend your energy to the collective cause.

1/2

Bruce_Toews,

@Pawpower May I ask you a question, just so I can learn a bit more, and you can tell me to shut up and I will do so without being offended. Wht are rituals, exactly? By our definition, a ritual is an established procedure practiced by many. I read all your pagan posts, again, because I want to learn, and it almost sounds like rituals are things you can make up as you go, along with the well-established types that I mentioned previously. How badly off the mark am I?

The more I read about drunken parties - people saying all sorts of things they don't want to say, doing things that will horrify them the next day, cheating on the people they love, puking on everything, I just can't for the life of me understand why people find this fun and appealing. People like to do this two, three times a week. One time when I was in Emergency, they brought someone in who had been on a three-day drinking binge wih no food. Where's the fun in this? Oh well, call me weird.

ordered something from CNIB smart life. I presume the print stuff in the envelope is an invoice. Think I could have gotten an accessible format of such a thing. Guess not! also, unfortunately, this does not surprise me.

Bruce_Toews,

@bmoore123 In so many senses, CNIB has lost its way. The veteran who started it would, I think, be very disappointed with what it has become.

So I asked the aid for a refill of water and a pillow for my left arm. She said she'd ask the nurse. I'm thinking, ask the nurse about a pillow and some water? About fifteen minutes later, the nurse shows up with a couple of pills in one of those little cups. I asked her what the pills were, and she said, Melatonin, that's what you wanted, right? I said, no. She asked what kind of pills I wanted, and I said, laughing, no pills, a pillow. Now we're both laughing. Communications mixups are interesting. I took the melatonin, just the same.
