CeruleanRuin,

I want a modern game with the Dark World mechanic. I know TotK has a little bit of that with the Depths, but a real mirror world where you have to solve puzzles based on the difference from one world to another would be incredible in a 3d open world.

Plus I want to see Bunny Link again. Tie it into the Zonai lore and explain why he turns into a rabbit in the dark world.

CeruleanRuin,

That idea is also an incredibly haunting metaphor for the experience of having a loved one with mental illness. When a person has major depression or bipolar syndrome or Alzheimer's, for instance, they can have days when they seem to an outside observer like the've suddenly become a different person, like the light went out and something else is inhabiting their body, and you no longer have any common ground to reach them. And it's terrifying.

CeruleanRuin,

Just adding my voice to the chorus here. A downvote allows for balancing out the follower effect.

CeruleanRuin,

Getting rid of current Republican office-holders would be one place to start. Voting matters, and shit like this is why.

CeruleanRuin,

Many people who don't interact with schools or kids in general don't think about them at all, except as a tax burden and a political football. It's a sickness on this country.

CeruleanRuin,

Already it reminds me of the early days of reddit, before memebarf, trolls, and shitposters took over. I know it’s inevitable that it’ll end up here too, but the reprieve is nice.

CeruleanRuin,

I would support a general community punishment for excessive punnery.

CeruleanRuin,

Might as well keep it simple and call it what it is without the branding. There is plenty about a site like reddit that we should carry forward, but plenty were should leave behind, and redundant jargon is the latter.

CeruleanRuin,

There is a promo out with some scenes from Una's trial, and her advocate seems like she might be just a spotlight character of the week, not necessarily a callback to anything in particular. But I could be wrong.

I could have done without the extended bit about Spock's warp command. I wanted to grab Ortega's shoulders and shout "Weren't you listening? His Thing is that he gave the order concisely and clearly. And then you spent an endless amount of time on silly nonsense before executing the order."

The scene of M'Benga and Chapel fighting off two dozen Klingons after injecting some unnamed super juice was also weirdly out of place. I don't mind fisticuffs, but it was really stretching belief that these two could fight off that many Klingons by themselves, apparently with only one knife among the thirty of them? And not a single double fist hammer punch was thrown.

I liked Carol Kane's character, and am intrigued by the mystery of her. And it was a weird choice to take the captain off the board completely for the first episode of the season, but this show has also demonstrated that it intends to give its whole ensemble a chance to shine, and this was a good way to do it. No doubt we'll get plenty of Pike and Number One next week.

CeruleanRuin,

Mark my words, Hemmer isn't dead. I'm willing to bet he's either a prisoner of the Gorn or otherwise on his own special survival adventure watching over a clutch of Gorn-Aenar hybrid babies.

So long as it doesn't become a pile-on, which it had turned into on reddit, which is why I backed the moderation on r/startrek. Criticism is fine, but when it drowns out everything else, that becomes a poor experience for people who come to discuss a show they like. If you don't like it, it's fine to list your criticisms or back those who already have, but if somebody has already talked about those criticisms, nobody wants to hear people repeating the same tired whines over and over. Maybe find a better way to pass your time than dwelling on what you don't like.

CeruleanRuin,

Works for me as a habitual lurker. I ain't got time to maintain a forum.

You’re Not 50% Mom, 50% Dad Like They Told You (archive.md)

Imprinting is a process that happens beyond genetics, and is therefore called epigenetic. An epigenetic event can change the expression of a cell’s gene without changing the basic genetic code. During imprinting, one or more molecules are added to the gene, acting as a stop code. These molecules tag the DNA and prevent it from...

CeruleanRuin,

I am so glad I powered though GEB when I was young. It changed the way I see reality, and I've based my worldview on that foundation ever since.

CeruleanRuin,

I had the same deja vu reaction to it! Felt a lot like an Enterprise episode somehow.

CeruleanRuin,

I think this discussion is extra important with the recent and ongoing influx of new users, many of whom don't have a clue what criteria to use when choosing an instance. Plenty of new folk who have no real affiliation with whatever taint their instance might have due to its admin.

CeruleanRuin,

It's because the people hosting it are tankies, right? I guess that explains why I wasn't able to sub to some communities hosted there, even though the communities themselves had nothing to do with politics in that way.

CeruleanRuin,

Yeah that's pretty gross.

CeruleanRuin,

It's shameful that the strike is still going. Studio heads would rather fuck their own productions up and down the line than give in and treat their workers fairly. There will be shows that died on the vine because of this.
