CeruleanRuin,

I had the same deja vu reaction to it! Felt a lot like an Enterprise episode somehow.

CeruleanRuin,

For a moment I thought I had stumbled on a Lemmy equivalent of r/nottheonion. This man is a cartoon.

CeruleanRuin,

There is a promo out with some scenes from Una's trial, and her advocate seems like she might be just a spotlight character of the week, not necessarily a callback to anything in particular. But I could be wrong.

CeruleanRuin,

Getting rid of current Republican office-holders would be one place to start. Voting matters, and shit like this is why.

CeruleanRuin,

Many people who don't interact with schools or kids in general don't think about them at all, except as a tax burden and a political football. It's a sickness on this country.

CeruleanRuin,

I just picked lemmy.one mostly at random, but also in part because it advertised itself as well regulated but also not heavily populated and thus prone to crashing with the recent influx of reddfugees.

Seems to work okay, but I can't create a community without admin approval and the instance also disallows downvoting, and I'm not a big fan of that at all, but I'll give it a while longer and see.

I'm still finding it a challenge to find the balance of communities that interest me I used to have. There's an awful lot of meta chatter about the site itself from new users that, while I understand, gets rather annoying when it takes up the whole feed. So it's definitely an adjustment, resulting in me using it less than I did my old haunts, but in the meantime I've gotten a lot more reading done than I used to, so I've got that going for me.

I could have done without the extended bit about Spock's warp command. I wanted to grab Ortega's shoulders and shout "Weren't you listening? His Thing is that he gave the order concisely and clearly. And then you spent an endless amount of time on silly nonsense before executing the order."

The scene of M'Benga and Chapel fighting off two dozen Klingons after injecting some unnamed super juice was also weirdly out of place. I don't mind fisticuffs, but it was really stretching belief that these two could fight off that many Klingons by themselves, apparently with only one knife among the thirty of them? And not a single double fist hammer punch was thrown.

I liked Carol Kane's character, and am intrigued by the mystery of her. And it was a weird choice to take the captain off the board completely for the first episode of the season, but this show has also demonstrated that it intends to give its whole ensemble a chance to shine, and this was a good way to do it. No doubt we'll get plenty of Pike and Number One next week.

CeruleanRuin,

Looks like it might be just lighting, but I'll take it. I keep waking up thinking it's Thursday and there's new SNW, and then I look at the day and sigh.

So long as it doesn't become a pile-on, which it had turned into on reddit, which is why I backed the moderation on r/startrek. Criticism is fine, but when it drowns out everything else, that becomes a poor experience for people who come to discuss a show they like. If you don't like it, it's fine to list your criticisms or back those who already have, but if somebody has already talked about those criticisms, nobody wants to hear people repeating the same tired whines over and over. Maybe find a better way to pass your time than dwelling on what you don't like.

CeruleanRuin,

I picked lemmy.one at random. Somewhat reduced features for some reason, but otherwise functional. I'm not really clear on what the advantages and disadvantages of any give instance might be.

CeruleanRuin,

It may indeed be vile, but that’s a vial.

CeruleanRuin,

I am fairly new to horror of any kind, having only started watching it a short while back when the Blank Check podcast went through Sam Raimi and John Carpenter, and from there I looked for other horror podcasts to watch along with and found Fright Pub and Random Number Generator Horror Movie Podcast Number 9 from the Nightvale guys.

Somewhere along the way I stumbled into Possessor and was scarred for life. Even though the violence and body horror was messed up and disturbing by itself, it was the psychological aspect that burrowed into my head and impressed me with how insidious it was. The main character is a truly screwed up individual, but it seems clear she wasn't always that way, and the dark paths she must have taken to get to where she ends up are haunting to contemplate.

Infinity Pool is on my list for sure, but I'm saving it for spooky month, when I like to binge on horror. Having a month dedicated to exploring the darkness keeps me from delving too deep the rest of the year, and the Cronenberg clan's ouvre tends to be a bit too twisted for me to wrestle with on a weeknight. I still watch one or two horror movies a week to keep up with the pods, but unless this one comes up in rotation, this is one that'll be waiting for me in October.

CeruleanRuin,

I would support a general community punishment for excessive punnery.

CeruleanRuin,

It's shameful that the strike is still going. Studio heads would rather fuck their own productions up and down the line than give in and treat their workers fairly. There will be shows that died on the vine because of this.

CeruleanRuin,

I want a modern game with the Dark World mechanic. I know TotK has a little bit of that with the Depths, but a real mirror world where you have to solve puzzles based on the difference from one world to another would be incredible in a 3d open world.

Plus I want to see Bunny Link again. Tie it into the Zonai lore and explain why he turns into a rabbit in the dark world.

CeruleanRuin,

Might as well keep it simple and call it what it is without the branding. There is plenty about a site like reddit that we should carry forward, but plenty were should leave behind, and redundant jargon is the latter.

CeruleanRuin,

Already it reminds me of the early days of reddit, before memebarf, trolls, and shitposters took over. I know it’s inevitable that it’ll end up here too, but the reprieve is nice.

CeruleanRuin,

It's because the people hosting it are tankies, right? I guess that explains why I wasn't able to sub to some communities hosted there, even though the communities themselves had nothing to do with politics in that way.

CeruleanRuin,

Just adding my voice to the chorus here. A downvote allows for balancing out the follower effect.
