People always go on about the KT extinction event and the utterly catastrophic impact the asteroid had. However, my "favourite" (horrible as it is to call it that) (not-exactly) extinction event has instead become the Great Oxygenation Event, where 80% of life on earth flat out died and the planet became terraformed (heh) because some stupid-ass bacterium learned to eat the sun really, REALLY well.

Not just the inhabitants, but the planet itself, the very composition of its atmosphere and just about all the rules changed as these bacteria slowly poisoned the air and rusted the oceans. It's... frankly mind-blowing the scale of it all.

And today it's just considered a super ordinary, rather unremarkable thing that there is a stupid amount of oxygen floating around freely in our atmosphere.

Today is the first of May. New month, not so new me. At least it's an off day. My plan was to stay in bed for a bit, write some, and then draw, but I think what I'm going to do is spend today working on my game. I have started from scratch again recently, and for the first time have built up a system that not only actually works reliably, but is both easy and kinda fun to interact with.

Speaking of, for some reason last night I fell into the rabbit hole of looking through jewellery of ancient civilisations, and while the context of some of the finds makes my stomach feel very poorly (seriously don't look this stuff up, you will have nightmares), I will say that, honestly, very fancy even today.

Our craftsmanship has certainly improved, we can work much finer much more reliably as our tools are incomprehensibly better than anything they would have had to work with, but they were indisputably masters of their craft.

I am sometimes uncertain as to whether my opinions on books should be trusted. I adored the first Percy Jackson book series. I couldn't stand Heroes of Olympus. I could not get into the world at all. These are two series of books, set in the same world. With overlapping characters.

Same with Tolkien. I can sit down and read The Hobbit any day of the week, but I've never read further than the Ents in Lord of the Rings. Again, same author, mostly the same world, loved the one, just can't get into the other.

Maybe I'm just strange.

Oh yeah, I sent the faulty PSU that was crashing my PC (I am 100% certain that was the cause, as since replacing it I haven't had a single crash or hardware issue while nothing else on my system changed, and it has been several months now) back to the store I bought it from. They assure me that there is nothing wrong with it, and want me to either recommend some other tests, or to send it back.

I'm a bit peeved. Tempted to get my 100USD paper weight back and tell them they've lost a customer, but on the other hand I should probably not go around burning bridges.

Good morning, all!

Okay, a couple of things.

Number one... If all goes well, I will start slowly streaming again as I get the time. This will mean weekends. Likely, Saturdays and/or Sundays, in the morning here. Stream scheduling will be a bit... chaotic, at first. Things are going a bit crazy, so for now the goal is one or two streams a week, at around 3 hours each. I will be doing half art/dev, half games more likely than not.

Secondly, I have for a while now been meaning to do a lot more YouTube. Unfortunately, right now that just isn't possible. I simply don't have the time. Please be patient in that regard.

Thirdly and finally, I'm going to be doing my server here differently as well. I'm going to do a split between my more serious and more RP/streaming stuff, like the original intent was. Content warnings will be used for those sorts of posts on this account, and I'll link out to some of the other stuff as they start happening. The short-term plans for this include:

  • The return of Good Morning Planet Earth, which will form part of this account at first, with the goal of eventually splitting it off into its own account. (It's a parody galaxy news kind of thing, it makes sense in context)
  • The return of my more story-focused account, though I'll very likely start a new story instead, set in the same world as the game stuff I'm making. This one is a more "in the future" thing.

An eventual re-brand of the character and channel to have a more optimistic and hopeful feel is my final goal with this first phase. This is something I've been meaning to do for some time, but IRL stuff has been weighing on this. So, it's not immediate, but rather I want to make this a continuous, gradual process.

Went to sleep at 1 this morning after hunting ghosts in Phasmo with the siblings. At 4, the cat woke me up. In the 4 hours since that, I have been reading about the dissolution of the "great" empires after WW1.

Honestly, pretty much normal me stuff nowadays.

This morning the cat has decided that he is very small and needs to lay on my lap for warmth and support and head scratches. I would like to point out that, while it is a cold morning, and he is warm, he is also not exactly small, and is in fact quite bony and heavy. This arrangement is acceptable to him, though, so my opinions on it don't matter.

Well, that was probably the worst night for sleep in months. It was so hot, and there was a lightning storm like I haven't seen the equal of in quite a few years. And it went on for what feels like hours. It's still raining quite a bit. I'm very happy about that.
