Here is a History with Hilbert that talks about the history of Haiti and how/why they ended up paying France so much money.

It’s a neat video that’s about 35 minutes long.

Girdling can be used to create standing dead wood, or snags. This can provide a valuable habitat for a variety of wildlife, including insects and nesting birds

Neat. I was wondering if the tree would remain standing afterwards.

Is the season after the reboot (after season 7) worth watching ?

Do they still have many highly intelligent and over qualified people working on it to make wacky science plots/theories/jokes ? How good is the show nowadys anyway ? Does it still hold that standard ? Been a hot minute since i last watched also i am talking about hulu reboot to avoid future confusion as one person asked me in...

Same. It feels like they’re trying to make up for the past couple years and it leads to things feeling a bit forced and dated as far as I’m concerned

FO3: Guns. Long-medium range guns. Real time combat plays like trash so max out your Agility and get used to living in VATS. Melee builds are also an option

Small guns specifically. Big guns covers items like the missile launcher and flamer. The stat is boosted by your agility level.

Personally I find myself relying pretty heavily on sneak (also boosted by agility level) for the critical bonus and strength for all the hoarding I do.

FNV: Weapons don’t matter as much, but pick a weapons stat and live by it. Make sure Speech is one of your top skills also. Once you get to the strip you can do a lot with a speech check.

I’d recommend also putting some points in either science (hacking) or lockpicking.

If you are looking for fun maximized runs I’d try a few of the novelty runs. For example getting the cannibal perk as fast as you can and going for the Meat of the Champions awarded perk or an unarmed power armor build in Fallout 4.

If you are playing on PC with mods you can create a lot of goofy fun playthroughs. Like the Any Mod Any Weapon mod and really focusing in on creating outrageous overpowered weapons.

I feel like some of this isn’t the best for new players though. To get the full raider experience in Fallout 4 for example I feel like you need to do a fair amount of strategising and make some decisions that might not seem straightforward.

I just can’t be bothered with the hacking mini game

One Youtuber that covers a lot of what you are talking about is JarekTheGamingDragon. Someone else mentioned Trepang2 for example and this was his review.

Sleeping Dogs was a lot of fun. Kind of like Grand Theft Auto but more serious and a focus on martial arts.

He covers a lot of stuff other than Half Life and BioShock. I feel like BioShock has been a rabbit hole he’s gone down recently and Half Life (along with F.E.A.R.) is a reference point he uses a lot when comparing games because they’re some of his favorite games.

He’s covered RoboCop, Beyond Sunset, Remnant 2, Roboquest, Diluvion, Rip Out, Retchid, and Sprawl within the past six months. You might just need to scroll down a tad. His titling system is a lot of X game is like but Y but with Z so you might need to look carefully to see what peaks your interest.

Has anyone here encountered a problem with Fitgirl repacks where it keeps going until it fills your drive?

I was trying to install a repack of The Sims 3 with all of the expansions, full size about 31 GB, onto a drive that had about 300 GB of free space. Left it running overnight, woke up to my computer completely locked up because the repack had filled every single bit on my SSD....

Even without that I’ve never encountered OPs issue

I feel like it’s fine. Think of it like Reddit in that regard. Lots of people have secondary accounts for different types of content. A lot of the time it’s NSFW stuff but the same could be said for memes, politics, and personal stuff.

I think you would need to use either browser based profiles depending on which browser you use or a different frontend. If you are on mobile lots of apps can facilitate multiple accounts.

Was looking at Quest 3, maybe I'll get PSVR2 instead? (kbin.run)

Since the AVP came out I've been yearning for a path back into VR. Quest 3 is the obvious answer and I've even had it in my amazon cart, hovering over the "purchase" button at least twice now. However, I just can't bring myself to pull the trigger and now I'm starting to take a closer look at the PSVR2....

  • I can see myself playing around with productivity and virtual monitors for my Mac.

You might be able to do that on a PSVR 2 either officially or unofficially through mods soon enough.

There’s an app that uses a QR code system for something similar that’s available for free for those interested.

Not the previous commenter but I do the same thing and I find it makes me feel less foggy in the first couple hours of waking up and helps me want to eat breakfast.

Open source e reader (lemmy.ml)

I recently got a Sony prs 600 e reader from 2009. The battery is at the end of its life (It lasts about 3 days with heavy reading, and a couple weeks without reading). No backlight, no Wi-Fi, just an SD card that I can load epub files and small PDFs. The screen is slow and the contrast isn’t the best. The “touch screen” is...

Some Kindles can be modded to use KO Reader as well.

MobileRead is my place to go for guides on how to jailbreak kindles for those interested. I’d link to the exact tutorial thread but I’m on mobile and can’t seem to find it.

Get free books from Gutenberg/Libgen/IRC/Usenet.

I think Anna’s Archive is still pretty popular as well

Do you know of any articles that talk about the patent aspect? This is the first I’m hearing of it and I’d be interested to learn more.

How to revitalize this sub?

I love the original patientgamers subreddit so I was stoked to find this community. And because lemmy seems to have a more knowledgeable crowd any topic I posted here had great engagement and discussions, despite the small community. I am too busy to be a mod but maybe I can help by sparking this discussion: what would be needed...

If it is a community rather than an instance it might still get some views. A lot of people on Lemmy are still browsing by all/new and they’d see it in that instance and wherever that community is federated.

That’s a good question. I wonder if there are available user numbers for them.

I imagine it’s regional and depends on what communities you are in. SimpleX chat seems pretty popular these days in privacy circles but I could see something like Briar being useful if traditional networks weren’t reliably available for example.

I feel like a lot of the military probably uses Facebook messenger because of the convenience.

I imagine everyone is creating groupchats and assuming other people use Facebook just like pretty much every other job.

Totally but people do get careless. We’ve seen it a few times with the war in the Ukraine. /r/VolunteersForUkraine is a good example of that.

I imagine it could be difficult stressing the importance of it to loved ones.

Did vault 33 ever trade with the outside world?

Hello all! I’m currently watching episode 5 of the Fallout Tv show. No big spoilers in this post so it’s ok to keep reading if you haven’t got this far. In this episode Norm claims he was planting Tatos from what I know these didn’t exist until after the war so is this just a lore mix up or has the vault traded with the...
