Cris_Color,

I appreciate you mentioning that, thats how I’m considering using the 5 if it ends up as my phone replacement, but I have a hard time interpreting the info around wireless frequency bandwidths supported 🙃 I like pretty user interfaces, networking hurts my brain

Cris_Color,

This is one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen 🥺

Cris_Color,

I’d already seen this video and really enjoyed it

Help with watch not working (lemmy.world)

Can anyone help me figure out how to fix this watch? I had seen a video that said it was likely that Center screw being loose so it wouldn’t wind, but even after tightening that it won’t start ticking. Bought some simple tools and I’m willing to mess with it (I believe it was a cheap watch) I just have no clue what to do.

Cris_Color,

You can buy a replacement movement (the guts that tell time) for probably pretty inexpensive. Someone else in the comments mentioned what the movement is (it’s a very common movement, I just can’t remember and I’m on mobile so I can’t check while typing this)

Cris_Color,

The shading for all the ridge textures is really lovely, especially on the muffin paper

Cris_Color,

Grayjay is also a cool new option you might wanna look into :) it supports freetube, YouTube, twitch, etc all through one app. Louis rossman has a video up about it on his YouTube channel. Worth knowing its in beta though

Cris_Color,

I think thats an awesome idea but make sure that you are careful to facilitate a healthy space- its very easy for spaces dedicated to really awful parts of the human experience to become so overwhelming in their negativity that they’re kind of a toxic cesspool making it harder for people to make their peace with things and cope effectively, rather than easier

Cris_Color,

A solid, accessible guide for different desktop environments and window mangers is something that’s been needed for a long time. Or even just some kinda step by step to recreate an example setup would be super helpful to new folks and could help grow the community.

I think that’d be a plus given the migration to lemmy split things up and shrank the number of contributers here vs reddit.

Cris_Color,

Awww, thats such a lovely idea

Cris_Color,

Some of them. I was gonna upload a picture but its gotten VERY difficult to do on mobile with either of my instances :(

My snake plant is named fettuccine, my car is named hornet after the character from hollow knight, and my ebike will eventually be named midna when I finish the project 😅

Cris_Color,

Thanks ☺️ at some point I need to find a good solution for posting from mobile cause I wanna contribute to content but not being able to upload to lemmy directly has made that so much harder. I was just hoping to only need open source stuff and I think I’ll probably need to use the official imgur website or app, cause the only open source one doesn’t seem to be working for uploading pictures. We’ll see

Cris_Color,

Oh, thank you for reminding me, I had actually downloaded the image toolkit app from f-droid but hadn’t played with it yet. The limit for my current server is 100kb unfortunately. And last I saw, lemmy.world (where my previous account is) wasn’t allowing people to upload media because they were dealing with people abusing the functionality to post child pornography or something like that

The image quality isn’t great, but at least compressed I can still post things through the jerboa app. I had totally forgot I’d already found a decent Foss app to do image compression

Cris_Color,

Never mind, even after compressing down to under 50kb, it still won’t work and although the error message in jerboa is cut off, it looks to be saying the image is too large 🙃

Cris_Color,

Congrats to the winners! Had a great time competing 😊

Cris_Color,

I believe this is an issue with both openboard and the aosp keyboard (with jerboa specifically), here lemme find the repo for the open board fork thats still getting development

Edit: github.com/Helium314/openboard this fork is under active development. It can be installed via the apks on github or through obtainium. If there isn’t one already it would be helpful to submit a bug report for the issue you’re experiencing. It might be good to open a bug report with jerboa too

Cris_Color,

I want a flipped version for the sundress cottagecore flower boy boyfriends and the edgy techwear girlfriends

Cris_Color,

Lmao, yeah perfect, thank you

Cris_Color,

If anyone wants to try this you’ll probably get a better result that lasts longer with an oil based paint pen :)

Cris_Color,

This community is small, its not productive to give people shit for posting decent quality pictures of food, regardless of your hangups about what you want the community to be. There’ll be more room for being picky about what posts belong on a given community when lemmy is big enough there are plenty of healthy communities for food related posts.

I can understand complaints about how eatable the dish is, or about the pretentious plating, but we can communicate those sentiments better than this, and ultimately no one has to like any given post that shows up here. If you want post quality to be better its probably more productive to post content you think is deserving of the community name

Cris_Color,

I want this community to be full of posts, and when we have a healthy starting point THEN I think it makes sense to be picky about quality standards. For right now I think my standards are that the pictures should be reasonably high fidelity, and some amount of effort should have gone into plating, and thats pretty much it. Frankly I think op put TOO much effort into plating, cause it looks fussy as all hell, but on a small platform like this posts are a good thing, and dissuading people from posting is not. If you want better quality content go post some food stuff you’ve made or eaten that you think is better

Cris_Color,

I mean liberal and conservative aren’t the same level of crappy in my eyes, but it is accurate to say corporate interests fund both of them. I think its reasonable to question how beholden both of them are to private interests

How do FOSS enthusiasts sew? What hardware do they buy?

I think I need a sewing machine that can do a variety of different kinds of stitches. One use case is to repair holey socks by cannabalizing fabric from other holey socks. Thus the stitch needs to be the kind that can stretch and ideally not create an awkward feeling on the foot....

Cris_Color,

You seem like you’d be much better served by a dumb sewing machine that doesn’t have any software, and either hand embroidery or saving up for an embroidery machine someday for embroidery tasks

Cris_Color,

Yeah, I’ve made a lot of progress, its just a big change of perspective to internalize. I think for me its mostly fear of failure, and I’m working to internalize that failure is good and important even if it feels bad

Cris_Color,

I’m so glad it helped! Have a good one ☺️
