I saw the graph the other day in a Facebook s-posting group. I was struck by it because it was the most information dense image I had ever seen given that it contained the whole universe and a little bit extra. But it came with no article so I’m glad to finally have one even if it’s from IFLS.

This has and presents problems.

The good news: it is using data from the Nurses Study. That’s hard data to beat because it’s got a great collection method going back years and years.

Bad news: it’s only covering four years. Bad news: it defines ultra processed foods as, among other things. having lots of calories. But spends a whole lot of time blaming drinks with artificial sweeteners. The one thing artificial sweeteners aren’t is calorie dense.

Either way it will give us something to argue about for a few years.

When people say it’s just like Garfield minus Garfield I try to say that it’s different. Those get existential. These are usually exactly the same. And you noticed that that’s the case. So frequently there isn’t any real difference. Sometimes there is and I might have to change something up just a little.

I do like Heathcliff under NAPG because of its absurdism. I grew up on the originals and it took me a while to appreciate the change. I was expecting the sociopath bulky cat but got abstraction instead.

I’ve only done edits on NAPG stuff. I do it each day as they are released so only his stuff is in the mix. But Sunday’s I add Heathcliff to something he isn’t in. I might pull from any Heathcliff, canon or otherwise, for those, so pre 2002 stuff might find its way in there at some point.
